CarBahn Tune

So...this is not a post regarding one tune over the other, this is just me sharing what I've opted to go with and my initial impressions.

On Wednesday I took the M3 in to my dealership (Thompson BMW, Doylestown PA) which has a performance arm to have the following items installed;

. Carbahn stage 1 tune(approx. 550hp & 564 lb ft tqe), with burbles,

. DINAN Heat Exchanger, with painted brace,

. BMW OEM Carbon fiber trunk spoiler,

I've only had the car out for limited amount of time, and with my rear tires and cool weather I really have not been able to put the power down full throttle, but this thing now really pulls crazily from 0-90mph. My rears are 285/35/20 MPSS. In addition to the power the CarBahn tune has an added burble tune. All I to say is it's crazy!

My exhaust set up is, Acrapovic exhaust with a bypass delete that can be controlled from the steering wheel controls & DINAN CF Intakes. Attached are a video and some pics.

As the weather warms up I'll be able to get the car our more and provide additional details.

It’s a great tune for those of us that want the comfort of a vendor backed warranty.

Fully agree. It's not the only option but if you're looking for a company who's leader has had a long history tuning BMW's and the warranty is important, then it's a good option.

Yeah my buddy got it installed on his M5 CP (774hp & 726 lb ft tqe) and he said it's another level of stupid fast.

So wait... Does carbahn protect the warranty (including extended warranties) or does BMW have an agreement with dealers that use this specific tuning software?

Interested, since when I asked my local dealer, they even declined the Dinan warranty.

So CarBahn is the offshoot of Dinan and is Steve Dinan’s new shop post sale.
You can opt for the tune with or without warranty coverage (there is a lengthy thread on here started by CarBahn).

Similar to the Dinan approach, your warranty coverage is honored by CarBahn is the dealer denies warranty (but read fine print and contractual details).

If your dealer denied warranty of a Dinan issue, you should contact Dinan. Again there is a thread on a user that went through Dinan and they honored it.

Actually spoke to a few dealers about this tune as well. Got quotes around $2k installed.

Is the heat exchanger needed for the flash Carbahn tune? Thought it was only needed for the Dinan?

I did not need anything. They installed it on stock comp pack. Great tune with even better peace of mind. I did the drop in filters at same time and also major improvement in sound and airflow

It wasn't required, but I already purchased one and had it sitting around. So far I have to say, I've noticed about a 15 degree difference in operating temperature from before.

Good to know! Thanks. I'm looking to just get the tune done then. Will keep this thread posted!

Has anyone had their car on a dyno since getting the tune to see what it was putting down?

No issues. The tune and car are holding up well. As it's finally warming up here, I've finally been able to get on it. About two weeks ago my buddy in his 2007 997 Porsche 911 Turbo and Me in the M3 ran the cars. We were rolling somewhere around 50-60 mph in 3rd gear and I was happy to to say that not only did I not loose, but I had him by a fender. I'm addition, I've actually gotten used to the burbles pops and crackles. I still think it's annoying but I like the fact that I have the ability to open and close the valves.

Just did midpipe with mpe and intakes with the tune and all I can say is WOW. My guess with 98 in the tank it's somewhere around 530-500whp. This tune is great. The fact that you can drive it as hard as you want and know the peace of mind is there. I recommend this tune to anyone. The minimal gains for OTS tunes aren't worth blowing your engine. I work at BMW. I watch people do it all the time. Don't Save a little money to only cost yourself 4k-25k in repairs.

Running good. I've had it for 3 months now, not a single problem. I have it now paired with a Eventuri intake and Remus/AA mid pipe.

No regrets, I wouldn't change it for the world!

yeah, someone has to hit the dyno! This is a very interesting option though.

It looks like Carbahn gives slightly more power over Dinan/APR and without the requirement to install a heat exchanger (another $700) to match the factory warranty. Definitely, a very tempting value prop. Does anybody have a Dragy or something to see how it performs on the street? Would love to see 1/4 mile times. In the past, I've asked in the thread they created, but they prefer dyno plots, so whatever.

It's just a shame the thread is now locked, I guess they haven't been able to pay their vendor fees. Can anybody speak to their customer support since then? I hope it's not due to economic effects from the pandemic.
