Wondering if some of you JB4 owners can elaborate on the difference between map 1 and map 3.

My understanding is that's map 1 is load based and map 3 is boost based.

Just trying to get some feedback on the driving characteristics between the two.

Thanks!

I'll post this to start the conversation...

JB4_S55 Map Guide as of v3.6 Firmware:

Map 0: Disable JB4 / Full Pass Through Mode
Map 1: Stage1 map adding approximately 40whp and 40wtq across the power band on pump gas. Suitable for all stages and fuel mixtures.
Map 2: Slightly more aggressive version of map 1 intended for vehicles with exhaust modifications and 93+ octane fuel. Can also be used with E85 and racing fuel mixtures. Requires Stage2.
Map 3: Slightly less aggressive version of map 1 intended for vehicles running on lower grade fuels such as 91 octane. Requires Stage2.
Map 4: OEM performance but with JB4 active for datalogging only.
Map 5: //M low torque (evaluation) map.
Map 6: Custom tuning map.
Map 7: Race gas map. Requires 100 octane unleaded fuel and for the fuel mass connector to be installed. Can be used with or without the EWG connectors but will make more power with the EWG connectors installed. This map can also be used with up to 35% E85 but in some vehicles & conditions this may cause a high fuel pressure drop and resulting stuttering. If this occurs drop down to map 2.
Map 8: Methanol Injection map. Requires BMS FSB controller or methanol kit for progressive mapping and safety systems. For pump gas a meth additive of 30 is suggested while for race gas/E85 + meth up to a 75 additive can be used. The higher the meth additive the more aggressive the boost curve. A meth additive of 60 would be roughly equivalent to map 7.

Note: For race use only to enable the automatic clearing of passive codes (real codes will continue to show a light in dash) set FutureUseD = 90.

Mike,
If I only wanted to run JB4 on stage one do you recommended that I go with stage 1 s55 tune?
I know the JB4 offers a lot more features but I’m not sure if ill utilizing all of them.
Let me know your thoughts.
Thanks

If you are only going to run Stage 1 why spend $400+ more on something you aren't going to use?!

If you never plan to go over stage1, then just grab the stage1. If you think you will go further then I would go JB4. The stage1 is NOT upgradable, while the JB4 is.

So only you know what you will want to do with the car. If you are unsure and you have the budget get the JB4. If on a tight budget just get stage1 and worst case you can sell it and take a 100.00 or so hit and get the JB4 down the road.

nothing to do with budget~
don't want to waste money if I don't need to.

so both are load based and map1 on both are manipulated in the exact same manner correct?
thanks

How much HP does map 3 give us Cali folk running 91?

It's a little weaker than map 1 at higher RPM where 91 octane is more prone to knock. But still should give around the same 40whp peak gain.

With the fuel connector installed you can use map 2 on a 30-40% E85 mix. Even if also mixing with 91 instead of 93.

Mike, how to gauge how much E85 you are running?
Example put 3.5 gallons of E85 with 10 gallons of 91/93 octane? Is that ok?

Ya, you don't need to be exact down to a percent. Most put in 3G or so in an empty tank and then top up.

For Map 2 Stage2 is required, and the Stage3 fuel connector is suggested. EWG connectors are not used for map 2.
