Can you point me in the direction of the VIN decoder? I googled one and put mine in but nothing came back
Try this one

http://www.bmwvin.com

Gives you the entire spec, you will be able to see if you have the updates as well because it will list the wifi hotspot

Must be a pretty serious problem if they are going to change diffs on 200+ cars.

Even if it cost BMW £1K per car to fix it, thats over £200K.

May be more than that.

I'd dread to think how much a diff change would be at dealer prices if you'd have to pay out of your own pocket.

They'd probably spend more than that on admin and communication. And I'm sure the OEM supplier would fit the bill. It's still peanuts.

So I phoned up BMW UK, who confirmed my car is affected.

Dealer got back to me, stated all the comments that are mentioned before in relation to rear differential producing noises, no fix, delivery stop etc. there was no updated news as to when the fix is going to come in. Dealer said they had a stop on the 1 series last year, which was for 5 weeks!!

Not looking promising.

How on earth did it disconnect from the axle? Guessing you couldn't drive it?

I thought the date range for faulty diffs was cars produced between 12 May and 4 July. Three months ago would put you before that range.

Dealer called me today, said that my car was affected, and explained that it is related to the diff 'grind noise issue', as the diffs were manufactured to the wrong degree of strength.

He did however, to my delight, say it will be all sorted for 66plate delivery, which is not too bad of a delay for me.(Though some have speculated it will take months to fix?)

If there is one thing I hate it's news given that gets worse. I would much prefer either being told they don't know or given worst case and it gets better!

Fingers cross for all those affected!!

I wouldn't do that, take the car in as you would normally as near to 1200 as you can, if the car is affected it's better there than driving it around faulty.

Foggy, is that Tony? I'm waiting for an email from him to buy the service pack but not heard anything so assumed he is on holiday. Do you know when he is back?
He said you have to buy the service pack from the supplying dealer, is this correct does anyone know?

Is yours at the dealer or at the factory?

Reading the main thread this morning it looks like 1200+ cars are now affected and BMW don't have the parts to fix all the cars
