All encompassing F82 purchasing experience!!
So I'm about to take that scary, daunting plunge into the shark tank to negotiate pricing of my future M4. I have limited negotiating skills and I'm definitely trying to get as close to invoice as possible. I'm definitely doing ED. I would also rather obtain financing through my credit union (penfed) to remove that element/opportunity for a dealer to rip me off. Do I need financing before I order? If not, how long before ED do I need financing? Also, What are some tried and true tactics you all used to get such great deals on your F8*'s?
Here is my build. Let me know if this is fair: Update**** 2/8/2015 Final Deal Update**** 2/25/2015 My European Delivery Blog of sorts Update**** 2/26/2015 European Delivery Video Update**** 03/25/2015 Garage Makeover Last edited by azula; 07-02-2015 at 02:23 AM.. |

You shouldn't need financing to order, just a deposit. Prices really vary by market. If you live in a city with a lot of money, you can expect to pay close to or at MSRP minus whatever incentives (holiday cash) you can get. If you drive a few hundred miles to a smaller market, you may be able to negotiate more off the price. Regardless, it's a popular car with limited availability, so don't expect much off the price.

Your best bet is to get quotes from multiple dealers. They don't have to be "local" either. Pretty much every BMW center will sell to you no matter your location compared to theirs. Some CA's don't want to do this, but plenty more have no problem with it.
I would expect you can get about $3k off MSRP including the holiday $1k credit. A lot of dealers in the Northeast are also doing an additional $1k off for holiday charity drives. |

If you like the car well enough take the deal they want to give you, they need to make money too, and if financed they can only make so much or the bank won't carry the paper. One way or another their going to make money, that's the business their in period. If you don't want to spend the money on a BMW then buy a KIA.
If you leave the dealership happy, that's ALL that matters. Buying can be more expensive than leasing, leasing can be more expensive than buying, the difference is real close depending on a few factors towards the end of possession of the car. Cash deals are sometimes good too, but your investing in something you know is going down in value right from get go. Some people on board will argue this. A lot of argument here to on options whether their worth it or not, LED'S lane departure warnings, cameras, etc, get it all you'll be glad ya did. Theirs a reason they call them options, options are like choices and in a society like we live in today aren't choices cool. anyway.

Thanks so much for the input. I am located in South Florida (West Palm Beach) and it's safe to say that there are plenty of CA's in my area so a "deal" is not likely. I figured the location from which I order shouldn't really matter as I'm doing ED anyways. I'll start local and work my way North.

Thanks so much for the information! Here is my desired build as well as my target price, let me know if I'm leaving anything out:
F82 Base (INVOICE ED) Price: $54,930.00 Options (MSRP)
Does that seem like a realistic/reasonable proposal? Updated this in post #1 as well |

Where did you get your ED invoice price from?

Just have a make or break price and pick the dealer that comes under it and you feel most comfortable with. Its an expensive car so small price differences shouldn't completely control who you decide to buy from. One thousand dollars on a 60k car is between 1-2% and about $30 on a three year loan. Not worth it to have a crappy experience. The best strategy is to go with what is comfortable to you. Don't try and be a hard ads if that's not you. As long as you don't have jelly for a spine and are willing to walk away without a deal, you'll be fine. You already have info on pricing to know if you are getting hosed. |

I don't really know. I heard he was getting belligerent on the forum. He caught some flak about how good his deal was and people calling BS.
I do know the info appeared real and accurate. Last edited by OneRib; 12-09-2014 at 12:55 AM.. |

No, Packman had some issues with others getting banned so he self-immolated
His price was a special agreement with his dealer that he has a long-term relationship with and a one-time thing just for him. To each his own, but trying to get budget pricing when you're doing ED just doesn't seem like a good idea - there's a lot of ways that can end in tears. But that's me, I'm willing to pay for honesty and service. Good luck! |

So here's my letter, I figured I would give the dealerships the opportunity of giving me a price rather than telling them what I am willing to pay. I'll keep everyone updated with my progress!
To whom it may concern: Please consider this letter a direct intent to place a European Delivery order for a 2015 BMW M4 (F82). Build Specifications: • Alpine White • Manual Transmission • Sakhir Orange/Black Extended Merino Leather • Carbon Fiber Interior Trim • Carbon Fiber Roof • Harmon Kardon Speakers • 19" Black Light-Alloy Wheel Double-SpokeStyle 437 M with Mixed Perf. Tires Please respond with a breakdown of your lowest price including the destination charge and itemized dealer fees. I intend to place my order as soon as possible should we agree on a price. I look forward to working with you and thank you for your time. |

Below is how I would approach it.
The cells highlighted in yellow are the ones you can negotiate. Everything in green is non-negotiable. It is pre-set and is what it is. Make sure you and the dealer are on the same page as far as ED Invoice price goes. The numbers should match or be very very close. Ask them to break out the fees as shown below. Always have them separate their fees from the mandatory stuff (Sales Tax and Tag,Title, registration). This way you know it is not being rolled into an lump-sum and you can see things more clearly. All you really need to negotiate is the dealer profit. Start at $500 and work your way up as needed. It will be a lot easier to negotiate close to invoice next year. Good luck.

Lastly, it doesn't hurt to mention this forum and that you have spoken to other members and have a good idea where the numbers should fall. |
