The diff supplier is GKN, so a great British company is responsible for this!

They have made the diffs for M cars for a while now.

Hope some clarity is brought to this issue sooner rather than later.

I really don't want to say this but I suspect it is. Your car must have a VIN number now so get them to check it.

I guess these will be fixed by exception rather than a proper recall. ie when it goes bang only then will they will fix it!

So why not do the same with the diff? I've not read about one actual failure .

What I don't understand is that some dealers won't let you drive your car until the new diff is fitted and others are OK for the car to be driven whilst waiting for the part.

Yes agreed, God knows!

But makes you wonder why they know about the defect. Maybe a couple of cars have gone bang?

Probably the most likely scenario dopper99.

Seeing as some cars, eg mine and DR12FAN's have slipeed through the net with a wonky diff, the only way they could be notified of a problem is if another car went bang.

It is weird how some got through and some didn't, cars that were built before mine have be given the OK yet mine is held.. Makes no sense to me..

I now have a delivery week of the 22nd August - 28th August.

I am told parts are arriving tomorrow but hey we will see

2016 BMW M3  [10.00]
Spoke to my dealer today and he mentioned that they think that this was known for a while and was part of the reason why they stopped allocation for M cars...

He said that BMW have no M products available until 2017 now.

I might do a write-up/pics on f30post about it as those guys may be more interested than M3 owners.
I meant to ask you about this VSS, are you sure have you have that on your M3? I ask as I didn't think we had these variable ratio racks.

Maybe I'm being a bit dumb.

Thats a good point Wills, I'm not so sure now after reading this:

http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=923203

Electric Power Steering
  • Entirely new electric power steering (EPS) unit, built by ZF
  • Servotronic function electronically adjusts the level of steering assistance according to the car's speed
  • 3 modes: Comfort, Sport, Sport+ (standard option)
  • Specially tuned for M3/M4
  • Will not compensate for understeer, oversteer, coarse road surface. Motor will not help unwind the steering wheel and it will self-center by by natural forces

Maybe I assumed it VSS as cars like the M135i have it as standard.

Regardless of that, the rack in the M3 is much quicker than the steering in the 530d I'm driving. Definitely can tell the difference but maybe its just not variable.

Looks like the parts have arrived for my diff fix so it's going in on Monday. Will also have the RIS done at the same time.

Will try to find out what they are changing on the diff.

May need to test it with launch control

That's promising, at least parts are starting to land on our shores.

I might get mine at some point too. not sure if I should wait and have it registered as 66 plate now. :

DR12FAN..... I think your getting a F83 m4..... I've been out in mine today on a beautiful sunny day with the roof open, sports+, and the pops and bangs from the exhaust..... truly awesome fun..... my 12 year old loved it as much as I did..... i'd suggest you get as quickly as possible and grab the summer whilst it is still here !

Those last 2 messages pretty much sum up my dilemma.

Head tell me be sensible, 66 plate will hold its value, better resale/trade in price etc

Everything else says just get it as soon as you can, enjoy that M Power in toupee removal mode.

And my decision seems to change as the weather does
