Yaas or Atlantis. I read u changed it but curious if cause of computer glitch car was much further along than anticipated.

Btw I had yaas f80 loved the color and u will too. Only reason I got rid of it was comp the pack and to grab a 18 m3. Yaas is fabulous color.

I posted the reason earlier but basically the car got pushed to a later production week that made our requested ED date unworkable. So we talked about it and felt that have that ED day ($800 total round trip for both of us from LA) and the ability to do more Track Days was worth more than the color to us personally.

Never opted for SO interior. Since the beginning we always had Carbon Cloth. The only thing that changed is the exterior color.

So just found out my Week 37 Individual order (initially allocated for week 31..but pushed due to individual) has gone into production. I have been given a VIN and we are all set.

08/17/2017: Received the official confirmation email from the ED Department Supervisor that you get after submitting your purchase order. It confirms my car, date, check in time, pick up time, and NLT drop off date. It also includes a FAQ section which is really helpful. Note: The confirmation email was in my junk email box. Make sure you are checking your junk mailbox once and a while or just add the BMW ED Dept's email to your contacts.

Second this. I called and they told me they sent it to me via e-mail and mail. It was then that I searched spam and saw it there.

Your timeline looks so different from mine.

It has been a month and I have heard nothing from my order but an email regarding my Lower Instrument and Center Console in Merino Leather request.

Wow. Then again interior individual options are much more intensive than a color request. That is why the recommend the lead time to be much greater

The problem is, my allocation is/was supposed to be in August.

The only thing I see different than most orders so far is my Nutmeg interior + the Lower Instrument and Center Console in Merino Leather I have added about a week after my deposit. I guess Grigio Medio request is also different since it isn't BMW's own color...

I haven't gotten my VIR (as far as I know I haven't) nor my production number. I placed my order back in July 17th.

I have heard nothing up to this point. I don't know if this is normal or not. I sort of want to "talk" to this dealership but they are 1 hour from where I live I cannot just drive over. I been second guessing I should have waited for my personal dealership to find the allocation for me so I didn't have to do this in the first place.

You should have a VIR and production number the moment the special request was put in. Maybe dealers do it differently, but from my understanding you cannot get approval unless you have a production number.

that's what the allocation is - a blank order ready to configure which means a production number. I've known and heard about a LOT of dealers who fuck around with individual customers and give away their allocations to other customers and tell them it's BMW's fault.

I recommend that anyone doing individual work directly with [BMWNA] - the only thing you need a dealer for is:

(1.) To get an allocation which is the production number,
(2.) to forward [BMWNA]'s pricing emails to you,
(3.) to submit the order which you then verify with [BMWNA] and with the dealer via a VIR (which is simple press of "print" or they take a cell pic of the screen)

Timing, status, and all other factors are best coordinated with [BMWNA].

It'd be nice if dealers didn't suck, but wives don't like girlfriends either.

Exactly right. That is what we did. The VIP individual order specialist for BMW NA is on a first name basis with me.

When I changed my interior from black to the individual cohiba, they had to cancel my allocation. I went from an ED of Aug to Oct just based on the interior colour. Once the dealer found another allocation I was good to go. Sounds like you're going through something similar.

That sounds fishy.

The dealer is given X numbers of allocations (which means a production order number) and they can be configured however based on the "priority x" rules. If the dealer has a production number and the car isn't in yet at status 150 the dealer can change the configuration. Yes, it will move out the production date (and any ED date), but you shouldn't have to get a new production number.

In the US if you had a production number and then wanted to add individual then a person at BMWNA would get involved and, again, the production number is locked and tracked through her, not the dealer, although the dealer can be a pass-through, i.e., she emails the dealer / dealer waits for the system to update and then tells you (and I believe the dealer has to actively check - there's no "alert")

In short, it sounds like your dealer may have given your allocation to another customer, delayed you, then given you one of the next allocations to come up (and blamed the delay on individual).

You may be right and i wasn't happy that it had to be "cancelled" Maybe they gave the allocation to someone else but i was told from BMW Canada that they had to cancel due to the interior change.

Maybe they are in on it. I smell vast conspiracy.

Kidding. However if you heard it from BMW Canada then it most likely is the case. However there are some dealers in the IS that will do exactly what GrussGott stated. It is BS and inconvenient.

What? My car hasn't even started production. Why the big gap between production and ED?

No clue. I think it was because my allocation was requested for production week 35 with an individual color pending. When the order fell through because the production week would be pushed past our pending ED date, the people at BMW NA, in the process of removing the individual request, did not change the requested production week. So the factory accepted it and it is being produced for week 35.

This is why what allocation you have is important. My allocation was an earlier build week, whereas yours may be later. This is not unusual, however, because some on here have had their cars produced 2-4 months before their ED date. While I wish that our car was done a week before we arrived, I am not stressing about it as it will likely sit in the Welt's storage until we arrive (or some other larger storage area).
