The interesting parts here are in the conversation about the m3/m4 and the individual cars.

Thanks for sharing Dackel.
Who wants to read with a thread title like that?

2008 BMW X5 35d  [10.00]
2015 BMW M4  [10.00]
1991 BMW Z1  [10.00]
I've heard from BMW people the M3/M4 will have a straight 6 with double turbo. Lighter than E92, higher torque, power still a guess... Somewhere between 420 and 450hp.

hmm, let's see:

1. it's title as "Up Close to F80 M3 Sedans"
2. the thread resides in the F80 M3 part of the forum

so...I dunno, maybe safe to assume we were going to see F80?!

+1. That is what I have heard too from my other sources within BMW. But now I keep hearing it will have three turbos. Engine code is S55 since it is based off of the N55 motor. 420 and 450hp. Lot of carbon fiber use in the "heavy" parts of the car.

Yup! Now granted that 167K Euro price does include the German 19% sales tax (VAT), but still that is much more than in the states. Then you figure in that fuel costs $9 gallon and the cars get taxed yearly( and it always goes up and up) you can see why owning a car IS a privileged over here.

Ich bleibe auf meiner Wette, mit V6. Aber die Wahrscheinlichkeit ist hoch, dass ich verliere.

Funny ... but important question :
- Is the engine code S55 because it is based on the N55 ???
OR
- Is it based on the N55 because the engine code is S55 ???

According to my informations the complete engine code was S55B30TO !!!

Greets Uli_HH
P.S.: Thrird important question: Is the B38 also based on the N54/55?

This was one of the biggest surprises of our visit. M is able to do and will do virtually anything wanted in the cosmetic finishing of a (special) customer's car. It's expensive, but it's there. I am sure you saw the hundreds of paint, leather, stitching, wood, and other finish books that they have. The library is spread out for consultation/presentation/brainstorming along with the customer - it's like going into the very highest-end fashion salon for an exclusive clothing item.

A few other interesting details.
One - the final concept, "formal" design and engineering of the 1M took place in only two weeks. It was spoken about loosely, informally and very quietly among the staff for a while. At the end of that time the head of "M" was away on a two-week trip and the staff put everything together, like kids doing something while the parents are out; they knew that they could not get approval for spending the time and effort. Upon his return he was showed a completed project. Since the development portion was essentially complete with no cost incurred, the car could be easily built by shoehorning it into the 128/135 production line during off hours, and the staff was so enthusiastic, the 1M was greenlighted. The staff basically pulled off a parlor trick and won.
Second - there was only one prototype built. Due to the advance and virtually complete initial work (with existent and proven M3 parts) and the tight schedule, there was time and money to use only one car for assembly and testing. That's pretty amazing.
Third - the test car was ... blue. But early on the staff realized the color didn't work. Hence the black, white and VO, as noted.
Four - the staff was really under the gun on the entire project, for both money and time reasons.
Five - they really like how their tuner project turned out.

Thanks, and especially for the pictures. They are better than mine ...

You got to post these in the 1M Forum as well.

When someone extends hospitality to you you do not thank them by pissing on their pagonia's. BMW does not like photographers in their property.
there is more to Garching than just the M studio but these are off limits for everybody else.

look man, to imply that somehow Dackelone owes me something, or that i feel cheated, or that I"m somehow entitled to something more on this free board is completely false and slander.

I'm not the only forum member that got confused when they didn't see an F80 pic. That's all I was saying. I'm not pissing on Dackelone, i didn't tell him to go to hell or say this gallery was worthless. I just got my hopes up b/c I saw the title that a pic of a F80 M3 was implied, and was let down when a pic wasn't in the gallery. that's all.

Dackelone, didn't raise a fuss about my comment, so why the hell did you? I have no dog in the game, you dont' either, yet you make a big deal about it lecturing me about this? You can go track all my historical comments on these type of galleries and you can see I've always be appreciative.

Dackelone even modified the title since to say he had "info" on the F80 and as not to imply he somehow got spy shots...
