Roof trim strip paint damage happen to anyone else?

Just got my car back from the smash repair and thought everything was fine. I then noticed the roof about 3 days later.

Has this sort of damaged happened to anyone else? I can't figure out if the smash repairs did it or if like a tree fell on my roof and smashed the plastic. I have no proof they did it though so not sure where I can really go with this. Worth kicking up a fuss?

Yes I'd say it was worth kicking up a fuss. The worst they could say is no.

was that piece repainted? That looks like its failed paint to break off like that.

if not, taking it to a paint shop would cost about 100 dollars or so, I'd just pony up the dough and not try and deal/blame anyone and waste a lot of time in the end

I think the mods edited my topic to say "Paint damage" But it actually isn't paint. It's plastic that has fallen off showing the metal underneath. The cost is around $300 i think (replace the entire part). Might be easier to cough up the dough rather than make a big hoo ha since I have no proof though.

Speaking to BMW to see if maybe this is covered under warranty? Weird that plastic just falls off unless it was vandalism or human error damage.

@JMG They say no :P

In the middle of sorting it out. The repair centre said it wasn't something they did. BMW have said this is replaceable under warranty so going that route instead.

It seems to be a pretty unlikely area to get damaged so I am not sure how it occured, whether it was damaged during the repair or vandalized or something just hit it and broke the plastic off.
