Is my exhaust defective? Sound doesn't change when I switch between engine modes

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Hey guys, please help me out.

So whenever I switch between Efficient, Sport and Sport Plus, my exhaust note doesn't change. The valves do not open UNTIL I tap on the gas only then is when you'll hear the valves switch and the exhaust gets louder.

I have to tap on the gas, then it switches open the valves. Is this normal operation?

I was under the impression that once you switch between Efficient and Sport/Sport Plus the sound changes immediately without having to tap on the gas to get the valves to open.

Am I crazy? I took it to BMW and the service guy said that's normal, that you need to give it gas before the valves will open and stay open. Is that BS or correct?

I don't appreciate any difference in idle sounds when I switch through the modes.

The valves will close right away if you are in one of the sport modes and switch to efficient.

To open them yes you need to tap the gas.

And no they won't stay open all the time even in the sport modes. The car will open and close them while you are driving based on various input.

No difference just sitting in idle and switching modes.

Facts. Also in sport mode when at certain speeds the flaps close and when u floor it the flaps open. On my awe exhaust it has a noise from the flaps opening( sounded like a metal mailbox opening and it was embarrassing). I purchased the canflap and it’s one of the best mods I’ve done. Keep em open all the time and once the lady is in vehicle I press it to closed. Huge difference.
Highly recommend to purchase the canflap

If you want noise, just get the Can Flap module. A tap of your BC stalk button will open or close the flaps.

When the car is still cold, you can definitely hear a difference in the idle. Flaps open creates a much deeper rumble.

When the car has warmed up, you won't really hear a difference in idle sitting in the car. However, if you stand outside of the car, you can hear that it's a deeper rumble when the valves are open.

You can hear the clicking sound of the flaps opening, when you turn on the power (not igniting yet), switch mode to Sport/Sport+, then push the gas pedal.

Just like the trick if you're untuned and you want to start the car with the valves open. Press the on button without the brake or clutch so it only turns on the electronics then put the car in sport or sport+ and tap the gas and you'll hear the valves open then start her up!

Just disconnect the plugs in the back of exhaust. Easily and cheapest way.

Yes! Just make sure your flaps are open before you unplug them.

Maybe it is model year thing, but on my early 2015, the valves open as soon as I switch out of Efficient mode at idle.

The engine needs to be out of the start-up sequence though, valves are always closed regardless of mode then.

Haven't been able to get this to work on my 2017 CP. Perhaps it's a year/CP thing?
