Front Bumper Bolts

Hi all,

About to tackle a front lip install and have it mocked up. I removed the four bolts that go into the bumper in the center.

They are too short when the CF lip is installed. I verified and the bolt is not long enough to go through the CF lip and back into the bumper.

1) Does Anyone know the OEM bolt pitch/thread/size?

From some research, I was able to find that it may be a Hex Head Screw with Washer ST4, 8x16mm.

2) Any other suggestions that I can use that will fit the OEM holes/bracket?

Thanks!

Need details. Different lips require different mounting options and hardware.

What type of lip? M performance or CS style?

If CS style, are you using oem mounting brackets?

Good point. Its a V1 style front lip from horizon motorsports. The holes are predrilled and they line up with the OEM front bumper holes. Its just the four bolts are not long enough. Wanted to get the pitch/thread and go with longer.

Thanks

The V1 looks like the M Performance style? Not sure why that'd have anything to do with the center 4 bolts

Issue still seems unclear without pictures

No, I believe the V1 is a copy of the Vorsteiner Front Lip as the M performance doesn't really attach to the center of the OEM bumper (at least I don't think, from pictures it looks to be a gap in the center).

I would post a picture, but all of the parts are at the shop getting PPF before the installation and I was just shopping around for the longer bolts in the meantime.

Got it. I have the M performance bumper. It has 2 bolts that go into an additional brace in the center that you have to install inside the bumper. I thought you may have been installing that piece incorrectly. No idea about Vorsteiner style though.

I think you need a M6X20 bolt with standard non machined thread but cannot confirm. Left my calipers at work Friday.

No worries, the V1 style goes across the entire front bumper and uses the OEM holes, but the OEM bolts are too short. Would like to try and find the same bolt but longer, so that I avoid creating new holes with different self tapping screws.

Realoem.com will do you wonders.

https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...diagId=51_5553

BMW uses 3M double sided adhesive tape I believe.

Here’s a pic of the self tapping screws they have listed. “TS5 x 20mm” torx head 20mm self tapping

Personally, I would modify this install via some over engineering by purchasing either titanium or stainless steel hardware to ensure no rusting occurs as it can eat at the CF over time leading to discoloration and deterioration as well 🤷🏼‍♂️

Not sure why the forum didnt notify me of this response.

Thank you for taking the time to post that response. Very helpful. I ended up going with new SS hardware and adapted the undertray to accept the new screw without drilling.
