Thanks for this thread.

I daily drive my car much more than I will track it so how it responds to my inputs most of the time is vital.

It's also worth remembering / mentioning that the E92 was simply slow at lower RPMS.

You HAD to keep the RPMS up to make power.... so let's not forget this.

The torque down low with the S55 is so much more useful...I am saying that the "power band" is more useful. And..the car can be driven in a way to reduce lag. We can still optimize power.......just like we had to do with the E92.

Good point. Even though there is some lag especially down in low rpms, at least the massive torque does kick in at some point. In other M engines (S65, S85, S54) it bogs down low forever until revs build.

On the other side of things the S55 doesn't seem to yearn for high revs like other M engines. I know the redline is 7600, but it seems to be happy changing gears at 6000-6500 rpms. Still did enjoy the old motors, especially S85 revving happily to infinity, but its a new time with new technology and we must adapt. You'd be hard pressed to get an S85 or S65 to average 20+ mpg even going downhill.
