Yes, the revs are from an actual M4.

The more I look at this car the more I fall in love with it.. I think it's the best looking car/concept ever from BMW.
It's funny though to read some of the comments in this thread.. "OMG I basically don't know anything about this car but it might have an engine setup that is a bit maybe remotley similar to another engine that's in another car! And it's going to break down every 50ft and be in a car semetary in 10 years becuase it has new technology!! I've never heard or read anything about what it's like to drive, but I HATE IT!!".... It's actually funny and sad at the same time.. What is it you guys say over there, don't knock it til' you try it? I guess we should say, don't knock it til' you try it and know what the h*** it actually is.. The styling is as always very subjective. Many people say that the M4 doesn't look as different from it's 4-series brothers as the E9x did from its siblings. But what does the E9x have that the M4 doesn't? The hood vents, yes. Anything else, no.. It's the non M cars that has changed, and I don't see what they could do to the M4 to make it stand out more? except the hood vents that is... Clarkson styled flame throwers? GT3 RS rear wing? Active aero? It's an M-car, it's supposed to be conservative. However, I think this concept looks much, much more aggressive than any other M car, ever. And I hope the production car will look exactly the same. But what do you guys think about the front lip? I love it, but I'd be surprised if it was still there on the production car.. |

Oh good, more pics of a good looking car in an ugly color.
What we really need is the specs.

Please read up. As Southlight has said, some specs will be discussed in a few weeks. The final stuff will be left for around the time of the production car debut in January at Detroit.

It has been said, BMW M is going the route of weight reduction, so CF Hood would be logical... but then I wonder,- how much lighter CF Hood would be than the Aluminum one? here is my new sig: "I think zis M4, ze best M4 ever"

But anyway, the amount that could be saved by going from aluminum to CF would probably be right about 7 lb. That is based on a very rough "back of the envelope" design rule that the weight ratio of a steel:aluminum:carbon fiber structural part is about 6:3:2 (or 1:1/2:1/3). The existing all aluminum hood only weighs 22 lb! It will be an very expensive 7 lb if BMW does so. I think we'll see a CF trunk since it would be replacing a steel part but it will likely maintain the aluminum hood.

In regard to the manufacturing of carbon fiber parts, remember, BMW has a partner in SGL as well as Boeing. SGL manufactures carbon fibers. Meaning, SGL produces the fibers(strands) that make up the cloth and the carbon fiber cloth itself. This alone greatly reduces the cost of manufacturing CF parts as compared to most other CF part manufacturers. Also, I don't think BMW & SGL use an autoclave for the production of CF parts, which also greatly reduces the overall cost of CF made parts. As proof, prior to the i3 and i8, the least expensive auto to use a CF chassis was the McLaren MP4-12C at approx. $230k base US. I'm sure everyone here knows the base price of an i3 in comparison. So a $600.00 carbon fiber hood for say, a Honda Civic would essentially cost $300.00 or less possibly.
When I first heard of the partnership / collaboration between SGL as well as Boeing I had a BIG smile on my face. SGL gets it started and you should see what Boeing has going on with CF parts manufacturing. This was a veeeery smart move that BMW has made..... |

Finally some definitive information about Aurum Dust. There goes that option. Wonder what the substitute yellow you reference will look like. Since you say similar, I'm assuming its a metallic as well.

very impressive input on CF! however, what was your reference on Honda Civic's CF hood $600 VS $300? Did you mean, BMW has the power to cut the cost of CF in half?
