Wow that really puts in into perspective (more than other comparisons I’ve seen lately)

The G80 looks like Quasimodo ! Side by side? Shocking to think both were from the same company.

Not really a fair comparison though, a lowered coupe with a splitter vs a stock sedan, it exaggerates the height difference. But nonetheless, that G80

Damn the F8x design flows so much better at the rear when you look at them like that

Couldn’t agree more stein_325i . The lines on the G8x looks so disproportional when compared to the f8x. Nothing seems to flow correctly. The f8x just has a certain presence when compared to its new sibling.

Its not even the height that stands out to me, just how much the vertical nature of the grill looks like a gaping hole on the front end while the F8X is clean and tasteful with subtle aggression. The G8X is just a clusterf*** of design.

And its gonna look even worse with a front plate. There is simply too much going on.

I'm usually not one to complain about front plates as they are required here but they do really just make it a even more messy design.

According to the G8X forums, there are apparently people who have somehow taken delivery and driving before the release. But we still can't get reviews for another two weeks :

A review would really be nice to see. Why is a simple review of a car that's already at dealerships and having rogue deliveries still a mystery?

The driving experience is just so good that reviewers are having trouble putting it into words. Plus the challenge is to have a review without using the word 'grill'.

I'm super terrible at photoshop, but I decided to take a few minute to play with the front end ... like could you have a huge license plate cover that would essentially cover up the horrors:

And as I was struggling with the rubber-band tool I was thinking, "Damn. I just might be BMW designer material!"

If you make the grill taller you got an Audi right there!

I can't say I agree much with the design but that's subjective but the G82 looks better than the G80 to me, anyway Tommy's comment is close how I feel about this too, at least from that video

Quote:
My thoughts so far
1. Different is good but different has to be calculated. This one is not
2. Rear diffuser looks terrible
3. Side grills are fake
4. Wheel design looks awful
5. Rear quarter section looks goofy.
6. Sounds great
7. I will miss the carbon strut brace
8. Single piece crank hub!
9. Interior looks just okay
10. Manual transmission kudos!
11. Slow electronic seats...I saw the fast forward there lol.
12. Sleeping man sleeping option is a must!
13. I dig the aluminum trim
14. Seats have no holes. Come on!! lol expandable thigh sections are great.
15. You need a manual in your life
16. Not as fast as stage 1 f80? This makes me happy!!
17. Rev matching rocks. I use it all the time
18. Inside sounds similar to f80. No??
19. No mention of the heavy weight??
20. Floating rear caliper is made because of no manual handbrake. But Porsche figured it out so not sure why BmW cannot
21. Manual is the way to go!
22. $77k gets you lots of other cars...juuuuuuuust saying
I don't think it sounds particularly good or impressive either as it feels somewhat tame to my MPE but audio from videos is hard to gauge correctly a lot of the time and I really don't care as much as him that it's coming in Manual cause I'd get a Competition if anything which has a stupid ZF.
I'm over the crankhub worry but a single piece is a nice peace of mind if you're going to go ham with tuning I guess, but now that BMW seems to hate it even more I'm not sure how easy that'll be.

And that he said it feels more like a .5ish stage F80 and not fully stage 1 is to be expected with weight to power ration as well I guess.

I need to see someone drive it hard and not spend 80% of it talking about exterior and interior which is not flattering to me at all.

Agreed! COVID didn't stop the M2 CS and other models from being reviewed so I can't think of another genuine reason.

So it's good at things I don't care about like infotainment gesture controls and long road trips. He didn't sound overly excited about it, more like let's not piss off our hosts.

You got that vibe too, right? Like it seemed like he was going to say “ummmmm... it’s ok...” but instead of it’s ok, he said, this makes me miss a manual. Shoot, that’s a comment you can say by driving any manual vehicle if All you own is an auto. That’s the difference of a car that has to GROW ON YOU and a car that you are genuinely excited to drive and possibly own. Think all the glowing C8 reviews when they first were previewed.

It's as though he had a gun to his head to make it a point to talk about how progressive the grill is, the "real" diffuser that is a million times better but has these weird square cutouts. He knows what a real diffuser is, that's not a real diffuser. Who cares about smoked reflectors, really that's what blew your hair back about this car?

Mr AMG did the same thing, kept talking about how it harped back to the CSL. No it doesn't it does not have the purpose of the CSL, so BMW stop the using social media to convince us. Even the people you are "using" to convince us aren't convinced. I don't remember reading a story in Car and Driver about the radio in the CSL when I was a kid. Because who cares about the dam radio look at the car!

///Marketing is trying to brainwash car enthusiasts, at least that how I feel. I just don't like the car, and I'm REALLY trying to. Every time I try I see another review it's either reading from the same marketing narrative or has zero true passion. Yea is F8x 1.5, that says it all. At least you can make gestures at the infotainment system while drifting though a corner yelling like a loon trying to peg the drift meter. Yeah thanks BMW, that's what he boldness I was looking for in my next car. At the end of the day at least it comes in a stick, I'll give them that!

I'll give it a chance to see what it's about and go find one to drive, if the dealership doesn't have it hidden behind velvet ropes and the excuses. I know it won't be pretty, but hopefully it drives better then it looks.

Speaking of looks anyone see the thread in the G80 forum in which a G80 is parked next to a members F82? The entire thread past that picture is mostly about the F82 😂
