Oil in Front Charge Pipe and TMIC
Hi all,
I was changing my spark plugs and air filters on my 2016 M4 (60,000 miles) and when I pulled off the charge pipes I noticed a little oil in the front charge pipe. When I looked in the TMIC I noticed oil in the front intake where the front charge pipe attaches. I've read elsewhere on the forum that this is "normal" but as I'm currently buying new charge pipes (and potentially a new TMIC) I'm curious if this is the sign of an issue. Attached is a photo of the TMIC: |

Normal. Wipe it out with alcohol, and then ignore it. No probs.
Or get an OCC, which also requires cleaning out. If you were on E85 the OCC would be recommended, but for gas not needed.

Turbo 1 leaking at all f80/f82. Catch can no difference. Inside catch can only water condensation. Ended up only with upgraded turbos and no more oil issue!
Also stem steals after 100k km burn some oil. I replaced all of this and in 5k km my oil level is still at maximum! |

My 2c……Normal……Did my plugs 2 weeks ago, took everything apart for cleaning (new O rings bottom of CP's) and same amount of residue as you.
2016 87,000 miles No issues |

In the past I replaced the turbo1 with a new one and after 4k km I was in the same situation!! The only way to clean here was upgraded turbos.( I run littco l640 uk). Also with downpipe if smoke is present after little idle the problem is not the turbo1, the problem is the stem seals I know what I am talking here. |

While you might or might not have a problem with a turbo, you'll get this even with perfectly sealed ones. The front pipe is where the vent from the valve cover connects so that's where the oil vapors are going to be deposited.
