Here's what I do:

Mr. Muscle oven cleaner to gently dissolve any baked on carbon. Let sit for a few minutes then gently rub with 0000 grade steel wool

Wash off

Polish using Meguiars NXT metal polish or Gtechniq Metal Polish and cotton pads. My girlfriend had these cotton pads for makeup removal and they were great. They are very soft and end up black so you can just bin them rather than binning an microfibre cloth.

Buff excess polish with kitchen paper

Final buff with a microfibre cloth

Seal with Gtechniq C2V3/CarPro Reload

I use Polish Angel metal polish with a microfiber. Apply a small mount, rub it in and wipe down with a clean microfiber. Adds protection as well.

Kitchen paper is paper towels on a roll that you use in the kitchen.

Is there any need to clean with IPA prior to applying the final sealant (GTechniq C2) or does just wiping with a kitchen paper (Plenty!) work fine.

I have just removed my Carbon tips and will be cleaning these tomorrow; but just realised that I am out of IPA.
Have never used the metal polish before; does it not leave any residue that would hinder the sealant application?

Metal polish and a drill with foam attachment. Doesn't get any easier than that

IPA before applying any LSP will help with adhesion as you’re essentially removing any oil residue from the panel, glass or in this case trim.
