Long term reliability of water injection system
Im at 3580 miles and I have a few codes for the water injection system requiring a new valve block which needs to be shipped in from Germany in the next few days. If this was a cheap part to replace, I probably wouldnt care, but its a $3500 part PLUS labor if you had to pay for it on your own dime. If these things fail every few years thats gonna hurt when these warranties die out. The SA did mention to me that this might be a "new updated valve block" or something but he wasnt sure. Anyone had theirs replaced and had it fail again?
Rguy, who is glad he splurged for the Carmax warranty. |

I've read about some filter in the water injection system needing to be serviced, but hadn't heard about the valve block being replaced. I'll have to poke around back there to see what's what.

My Water injection "injector" has been replaced in October of last year with 2800 miles. That's what I got from BMW, when I called to acquire about it, before I purchased. It seems, for the most part, they have one fail early on... and then it's okay... who knows though.

Under the maintenance warranty, I believe they change it every 2nd oil change- likely as often as the air filter.

Bravo on the mileage! The GTS is definitely not designed to be a garage queen

If the car was sitting around for long time like mine, I suggest you change the stone filter and don't wait for the next scheduled service. |

Picked up the car this morning. Wow, you can 100% tell when the car's running as designed with water injection/full boost. It was fun before but definitely was down 50hp.
Hopefully this fix works for the long term. |

Protocol appears to be filter replacement every 2nd oil change. Just had my 2nd oil change at 3,100 miles and the service indication was for filter replacement as well.
$50 part from the dealer, just shy of $100 installed for this little bugger. I asked for the old filter. Anyone care to explain how it works?? Not like any "filter" I've seen. Closed end, presumably attracts/collects impurities? Old one looks perfect. Golf tee for scale. It's part 14 here

Also having water injection issues within the last few months. Brought it up during latest service and they want to replace the whole system. Said something like $5k for the parts but it's still under warranty. Been waiting for a few weeks for it to ship from Germany - something about customs?
Actually incredibly surprising how different the car feels with reduced power. It's night and day. |

My car was at Classic BMW to have the hood aligned. I asked them to check the water injection system as I've not used much water in 2250 miles - no issues found. I need to drive it harder

My car's power delivery is inconsistent. Sometimes it pulls hard and sometimes I can tell it's down on power. I need to have it checked out but the car is definitely using the water. Also, as the water splashes around in the tank, when I accelerate hard or take a hard turn even at 3/4 full tank of water it notifies me that water is low.
