My point was that we have two cars that are similar in weight, so the discussion can be put to rest (..regarding specs, etc.).

3590 + 48 = 3638 I don't think ceramics and a manual will drop 139# on an M3. Maybe a stripper M4 with ceramics and a manual (a zebra), but even that sounds like a stretch. Last edited by turbo8765; 06-20-2014 at 04:16 PM.. Reason: spelling |

Plus or minus 100lbs (3% of total weight and only 3% of folks will be able to precieve that difference), the new M cars are the same weight as the previous generation while having more power, more tech, better fuel econ, better lap times, and being bigger?
Isnt this a win win?

About 100 lbs lighter than an e90 m3 with no sunroof and similar options, not bad. More difference (in theory) if both cars were manuals.
Seems like low option manual m3 will be under 3500 lbs. impressive for a car of this size |

I'm just disappointed that it wasn't in the 33xx range like BMW marketing led us to believe initially . Everything isn't about E92 vs F80 lol . The placebo effect of new owners overlooking flaws in the honeymoon period is just as strong as "old" model owners looking for flaws to be fair . This doesn't take anything away from the car it's seems to be very good and an improved performer , but I just take issue with BMW's marketing approach in regards to its weight . But yes I agree this puts the" is it with a driver / luggage etc " comments to bed .

I was too about the weight. Wanting a lighter car than my 335is was key to my current buying decisions.

Considering that the F80 M3 is getting real close to the E39 M5 in size, and my M5 weighed 3920lbs with a 1/2 tank (back when it was totally stock, now it is ~55lbs lighter), this is pretty damn impressive (thinking specifically about the 6MT version for a true comparison which is a good bit lighter than the DCT). I've not weighed my E90 M3 yet, but it's a 6MT with no sunroof and no EDC but most all other options (which don't weigh much), so I'd like to compare it to the 6MT F80 with both holding the same amount of fuel.

Not only a different scale but one that we have no idea if it is accurate or how it is calibrated. It's a truck weighing station for crying out loud

Totally disappointed... basically 3600 lb without driver. Ugh.
Quote:
3590 + 40% of 16 gallons of fuel (38 lb) + 75 kg for driver = 3793 lb. The subtlety of how many options are required/included remains for an official Leergewicht", but for this car, Leergewicht EU = 3792 lb At least this is highly consistent with the US curb weight of 3595 for the F80 with M-DCT, which clearly does not include driver. At the same time it is also highly inconsistent with the EU specified Leergewicht EU of 1635 kg which is 3605 lb (again including 90% fuel and driver, straight from the bmw.de website). This thread shows a fully loaded E90 M3 with M-DCT on the scale with full tank, no driver at 3736 lb. So for apples to apples its Leergewicht EU is: 3736 - 0.1*16.6 gal*6.1 lb/gal + 75 kg = 3891 lb Conclusion, yes KennyPowers was right on with his 100 lb number above. The exact number is 99 lb less than the prior E90 M3. Again the BMW quote of 80 kg (that's 176 lb) lighter than a similarly equipped E90 M3 was (as we continue to show) utter BS. Shame on you BMW. Shame on you for the 3300 lb / 1500 kg nonsense as well (regardless of what weight specification that was supposed to be according to). The prior thread I linked to showed a different F80 M3 at 84 lb lighter than this same "reference" E90 M3 (again using some simple corrections to make the cars "apples to apples"). Let's not dismiss this finding with the completely unrelated "oh it has much more power", "oh it is so much faster" or "oh at least it is lighter" and of course the "most drivers can't feel 75 lb anyway". All those are completely true, but irrelevant as to the BS marketing dishonesty of BMW. The scale should have read close to 3500 flat for this car for BMWs claims to have any basis in reality.

If we're able to find an F8x m3/m4 that, when spec'd identically, weighs about 170 pounds less will you guys post a video of yourselves eating crow?
This is 3590 pounds here. The DCT is 89 pounds heavier than the manual. So an F80 (sedan) m3 weighs 3500 pounds with half a tank of gas, exec package, drivers assist package, 19" wheels, and adaptive suspension. How much would it weigh with no exec package, no drivers assist package, 18" wheels, and base suspension? How about in european spec with manual seats? How about that same spec in the coupe? We don't yet know. That all being said, I'm guessing my stripper model (exec M-adaptive suspension) is going to weigh in close to 3500 pounds with a full tank. That' amazing. |
