I love cayman look, and know the midengine car drives, but as many folks says it needs more power for that amount of money. Cause I don't have a track around I would go for m4 all the way!!!
More power,more torque, fun on the street!!!

The Cayman is probably down on power, relative to it's competition. But as a subject, the Cayman is nothing short of thrilling. There is a lot to be said about a balanced car, and that applies to power/weight ratio as well.

Has anyone ever spun a Cayman, or seen one spin? They go around like a top, and usually stay on track rather than go off. Light weight and stiff springs will punish you if you're abrupt.

An M3 or an S4 is a lot more forgiving. The extra heft smooths out your mistakes. Quattro lets you get 100% on the gas before the apex. When you do lose it you are likely going off track and with a lot of speed.

The 1M out-handled the last Cayman S, I suspect the new M2 will out handle this latest one... since the 1M has zero Carbon Fiber bits & the M2 is suppose to have roof & quarters made of the stuff.

Also that M2 is growing in size once again, the nicest part of the 1M is it`s compactness, which I do really love ( it is a very nice coincidence that the 981-Cayman S has exact the proportions as the 1M, only wheelbase is different)

Engine wise the NA vs Turbo discussion is tough, both are great on their own way, but the turbo in street riding has made mee feel spoiled somewhat, the instant power feel/delivery is just insane, high reving engines are great also on feel and sound, but not always possible in daily driving ( I dit have an E46 M3 and an E92 M3, so have been there done that)

Further rumors are that Porsche is going to build only turbo charged engines from 2016 and on, because of EU CO2 emission regulations/laws

The Cayman is a serious alternative for me, the EPS will be better and evolving in time, engine developments are on the way as we speak.

We will see what happens for succesion of the 1M, which is for me the most rewarding Bimmer ever driven. Could be I `ll never give her up

I test drove a Cayman S, before I ordered my 135is. Really liked it, but the engine behind me on the highway was to much & the car suffers from a lack of torque and just not fun to casually drive on the streets.

Too bad the 1M's had already been sold out, but my 135is isn't too different from the power of the 1M, but I just feel the E82 needs a slightly longer wheelbase, so it tracks better at high speeds, etc.


The M4 has a nice wheelbase, but the car is just too long for my liking. If I go that big, I will just get a Mustang. Kinda why I have a 2.5y lease on my 135is, waiting on a M2. (Unless someone released an AWD performance hatch)

No it didn't. The Cayman S/R were certainly better handling cars than the 1M. Go look at every review, most have picked the S/R over the 1M.

here are lap times. Cayman R wins EASILY on ALL (exception of one with cayman running very wet lap) and by large margin on most.

Suffice to say, if you've ever driven them, you'd know the 1M isn't as good a car to drive or when it comes to performance and handling.

The Cayman GTS will not be touched by the 2M or whatever they call it since the 1M wasn't as good as the Cayman R. Nothing can touch the 991 right now and the GTS will be very much right up there.

It looks like Porsche has taken the wraps off of the new Boxster GTS and Cayman GTS. I love Porsches and they are great cars, but I was a little underwhelmed by the GTS version. I would have expected a larger bump in hp and torque, and it looks like they just added options by making them standard. Changes seem to be mostly cosmetic with the new bumpers, etc. It would be nice to see a Cayman with 400 hp, but I think Porsche is worried about encroaching on the 911. Either way I am going with an M4, and I can't wait to take delivery this summer.

Anybody else have any thoughts on the new GTS twins?

You could always make the argument "should have/could have done more".

Boxster/Cayman GTS is all you really need in a sports car. Makes the 911 almost useless. I'll pocket the 8-10k and stick with the Cayman GTS.

Point being what exaxtly does this model offer that a cayman s doesn't? Is it worth it? IMO no

I've also driven a cayman s and a new 991s and I would never buy the cayman after driving the 991s. It's that much better IMO and I like the looks a lot more

I agree with you 100% Kenny. I drove a 991 S cabriolet and it was awesome. However, that is in the 115k-120k range easily and that is quite a jump from the Cayman and Boxster. I like the Cayman and Boxster, but I always have felt that Porsche was not doing the most with this platform. For 80 to 90 k for a Cayman s or gts, I don't want to drive something that I feel is a compromise in the power department.

So many variables factor into a sports car other than an engine alone, but the Cayman and Boxster engine just seems lacking (especially in base form). I also don't like the idea that I have to rev the hell out of anything to just be able to get it to go. I feel that a sports car should go from the point you put your foot down and doesn't let up. I also feel that the V8 in the R8 was lacking when I drove it on the track, the V10 was a completely different story (passenger only in the V10).

These are just my opinions and are not intended to insult anyone, but I think the Cayman GTS should have been pushing closer to the 390 hp mark rather than just 340 hp (10 hp bump over the S).

I've read that for each Porsche sold, Porsche earns $23K profit per car which is more than any other car manufacturer. And after looking at the Cayman GTS (base $75,200) and Boxster GTS (base $73,500) it doesn't surprise me that Porsche is pulling away from us poor folks.

I wouldn't be surprised if porsche is downplaying the HP numbers or 0-60 times. Remember you can't get too close to the 911S... I think a one year old GTS for $55k will be an interesting car next year!

I couldn't live with a 2 sweater just yet, but I think a Cayman S is just so right...sport exhaust is a must have
