After all, as car 'enthusiasts', we comment all day long about cars we don't own, never intend to own or cannot afford, and I'm sure you were adding your input about BMW's and/or ///M cars long before you actually owned one as well. Pointing your nose at a 45 degree angle doesn't make your opinion worth more than anybody else's.

I could go to the 335 forum and say how boring the engine is and how the car hasn't changed for 8 years from a performance perspective, but my opinion is useless in that I have no intentions to buy the car. Who cares what I think about the 335, similarly who cares what someone who drives only a lexus SUV thinks about the new M3?

Why I say this is because if you don't own an M3 OR have no intentions to own one, it's impossible for you to understand what it means to own an M3. There are a lot of people here who own the M3 (like myself) for pure joy and driving feel. The steering, engine, exhaust note, flat torque curve, 8400 rpm is what made us buy an M3. We were never in it for pure performance numbers, we didn't care about how long it took for the car to reach to 60mph. If we cared, we'd get a different car to begin with. But you or others coming from cars like 135s or 335s feel differently because to you a car is all about tuning and performance numbers. That's why if you have that background and have no intention to buy the new car, your opinion is irrelevant.

On a side note, this applies to pretty much anything. I will never buy an android phone and I'm happy with my iphone, this doesn't mean I'm going to actively participate in forum threads about how bad the android is. What's the point? If I'm never going to buy it, who cares what I think about it?
One of the great joys of being a car enthusiast for over 30 years has been the endless debates with my friends, family, colleagues and others about the virtues of cars I will never own, either because I don't want one or can't afford one.

I think this applies to many/most of us on this forum.

That's great but we were talking about the E90/E92

My point still stands. The dash in the E9X cars are the exact same, and the only time the center stack was modified was for LCI (..which affected both cars). The door mounted ambient lighting package does differ between the E90 and E92 cars however.

E90 absolutely did not have the ambient lighting strips, which I consider is real ambient lighting, not 2 tiny little led's, that doesn't count. Look it up.

Yes post LCI the E90 did look much more similar to the E92, but the stacks are still different. For example the HVAC controls don't include heated seats in the E90, they are still in a separate row of buttons on the bottom of the stack whereas in the E92 post LCI they are in the same cluster as the HVAC.

The point is, the interior pic in the OP is NOT an E90, it's an E92.

By "differ" you mean it doesn't exist on the E90 and it does on the E92 then I agree.

For the purposes of the comparison, the minutia doesn't affect nor detract from the overall purpose.

Sure, I did admit it was being nit-picky, but you're still wrong on all counts.

Correction: E90 M3 from 2010+ had the same revisions in the center stack with the heated seat buttons moved to the HVAC controls.

Source: I own a 2011 E90 M3 LCI

Pics can be posted upon request, though i'm sure that's rather unnecessary.

This is my first 335i, so I didn't 'move back' to anything. After getting rid of my last ///M for the X5 (..which I purchased because I needed a larger car to tow my race bike, but ultimately received an offer to sell it, so I did), I decided to lease a 335i because....
  • I didn't want a 5 or 7 Series.
  • I didn't want to buy another E9X ///M3 when the new car was less than a year away, and I had already owned an E90 ///M3 sedan and two E92 ///M3 coupes.
  • I didn't want to change brands; I did that before - I traded my '03 M3 for an '04 G35 and regretted it - and I'll never do that again.

I didn't get rid of my car(s) because I didn't like BMW's direction. In my 12-ish years of BMW ownership, I've never had a problem with the direction BMW has taken (..the overuse of the ///M badge aside). I traded/sold my cars simply out of boredom and an admittedly fickle behavior towards cars; I'm on my 10th BMW in 12 years, and half were ///M3's. People like the new car because it's angular, muscular, provides more performance than the outgoing car and is something new. An enthusiast doesn't have to dislike the previous car to praise the new car.

The MAJORITY of the people who will buy an ///M car are not on this forum; the forum community, while large, is very small. Stop trying to speak for everybody. The people who truly dislike the V8 are a small, but vocal bunch, and that's their prerogative.
You, sir, win the internet.

ANYWAYS, BACK TO THE OP TOPIC....

DISLIKES:
- I dont like that its longer by a few inches (we dont need bigger cars)
- I dont like that its a 6 cyl TT vs. a small NA v8
- I dont like that the redline is almost 1000rpm less
- I dont like that the DCT is now 80lbs heavier vs. old DCT was only 40 lbs. heavier
- I dont like the rear bumper design + the reflector placements

LIKES
- I like that its lower 1" and wider 2.5"
- I love the torque being 111 lbs ft more
- I love the shaped CF roof on the sedan
- I like the interior and all the new technology (except the nannies of course = lane departure = lame departure = lol)
- I like the exterior design
- I love that the weight is down from the e90m3 (less weight = more fun)

Looks like I'll be trading in my F10M5 for this.
I recently drove an F30 diesel with M package and it had the same torque as my old e90m3....i was very mpressed with the chassis stiffness and suspension compliance....and of course the weight vs. torque feel.
Based on that car and these preliminary F80M3 specs (eegh...why is it not called an F30M3 again?)....this upcoming car should be a phenom.

Put in my place??? Hey you're the one going back and changing posts pal. The fact still remains, it's absolutely a pic of a E92 interior, not an E90. The E90 absolutely did NOT have ambient lighting which you flatly denied.

No mega-opinions here, just a thanks for posting this thread. It's very interesting. I think that additional length translates into real seating for adults in the back, and I'm liking the whole package. Except the weird eyebrows over the front air intakes.

I just purchased an E90 M3, but I'll admit that the F80 M3 is better in almost every category...particularly the weight loss.

The only questionable aspect is the fun factor of the motor versus the S65B40 and S54B32. I was sold on the mod-friendly N54 until I drove the M3 and realized the experience is worth more than how much horsepower it can put down with a chip. Hopefully, the S55 will pull hard to redline unlike the N54.

Regardless, it's good to see some major improvements that will keep the M3 competitive.

Not the smartest or financially prudent behavior, but I'm guilty. Example: I traded my 2011.5 M3 coupe for a 2013 X5 M Sport in May of this year. Sold the X in September and bought the 2014 335i. The longest I've kept a car is 2 years: my 2006 330i - which I traded for a 2008 M3 sedan - and my 2011.5 M3. Everything else lasted a year or less.

Exception: My ex-fiancee still has the 2011 128i M Sport that we got for her. We bought that a couple of months before I bought the most recent M3.

I already have a friend who is going to take over my lease on the 335i so I can get the F80 next year.

My only problem (this is really nitpicking) with the new cars is how low the rear bumper extends down... the e9x rear bumper is shorter and ends higher up that it gives it more of a taut, athletic appearance. The f8x's rear bumper is so tall that the bottom of the bumper is much closer to the ground; it makes the rears look much bigger in a not-so-good way.. I don't know how to explain it any better but again it isn't really a big deal.. but comparing it to the e90 that's my biggest exterior complaint (which again is minimal).
