Silicone Charge Pipe + Engine Cover Fitment Issues?

I had to replace my factory charge pipes since they cracked and decided to go with a pair of Vargas Racing silicone ones...but I can't get my M POWER engine cover to fit over them...anyone else have an issue with this? I could cut the cover up to clear the larger diameter of the hose but that seems...whack. I tried adjusting as much as I can but that grommet that separates the charge pipes is just not making contact.

Ideas? Tips?

I ordered an extension nipple (or whatever you call it) from ESS. They kind of gave me a hassle, but did it for me. It's not cheap; however, I could not bear having the cover sitting there.

Oh, interesting---and it doesn't make contact with the hood? For me it rattles if it's too high up.

I installed the Vargas ones a few weeks ago and didn't have any issues. Make sure the pipes are all the way seated at both ends. If not they will sit up slightly higher not allowing the cover to fit.

Yeah I went through that a few times to make sure but there's no way the engine cover will clamp down on that nipple between the charge pipes. They even said (Vargas) they had to trim the cover to clear it properly. I might just do that.

Just let them know exactly what you are requiring. This is how they describe it.

"The ESS charge pipes are slightly larger than the OEM counterpart, creating a need for the engine cover extension socket that is included. The engine cover socket raises the back of the S55 engine cover enough to accommodate for the larger outer diameter of the pipes, but not too much as to interfere with the underside of the hood when closed. "

Right on, I'll do that. Thanks!

Not sold separately, only part of the ESS kit.

Oh, I'll fab. one. It's not a big deal. Thank you!

I got a quote from EAS saying it would be ~$100 for that part if anyone is interested, most likely not (lol).

Could you measure it? How tall(er) is the extension - from base to nipple in mm's??

Greatly appreciated!

Cheers!

FWIW, I had the same issues with fitment with my aluminum (VRSF) pipes. Rattled.

Finally just took the cover off and problem solved! I mean, what does it really do with the hood closed, lol.

There have been some threads about lowering IATs with the cover off. Who knows

I hear ya! I've actually heard the same.

I only take it off for Track Days, though.

Cheers!

Did anyone figure out a work around or a place to just buy the extender?

Not needed. Just unthread the existing one a couple of turns counter clockwise ("Loctite" if needed) and that should solve it!

If you really have to have it, ESS will sell you an extended one - for $69.00!!

Cheers!

[Edit:] "Loctite" wasn't that "tite". The nipple loosened up and disappeared!

I think they're talking about using another kit and only trying to get that specific part from ESS.

Found a solution to the engine cover issue. Added this to the engine cover mount and have had no issues and no rattle.
