Engine bay...

This has been one heck of a journey - but we here.
All mods were done with my two hands. I’ve learned much along the way and it has only increased my thirst to push my boundaries even further.

Next up on the block is installing the Active EL paired with the Akrapovic slip-on. I have never touched an exhaust on a car before, so this will be a first. I’ll definitely post pics in a new thread once I get started.

Thanks to those in the community for inspiration, error avoidance techniques, best methods etc.

Lets go!

DIY is the Best! Feels so good.
Exhaust is easy. Hack away!

Just remember you need a new pair of DP-to-Flange donut gaskets every time.

I'm in for sound clips on your Akra and AA EL combo. I have the full Akra Evo exhaust with Catless dp's. Been waiting for someone to try this combo. Are you going resonated AA EL pipes or Non-resonated???

Looks great.... my only gripe would be why eventuri didn’t match the weave direction on the engine cover with the intake pipe work 🙄

I assume you have cat-less downpipes? If so - resonated would be the way to go. It can get loud - at least for my tastes.

Both actually. I’ll DM you.

LOL - not even. I’ve been at this engine bay for a while. Just a dude doing things. Wanted to share the final product after months of working towards it. So many people on this forum have helped me and they don’t even know it. Great community with tons of knowledge.

Keen eye and a good question. But I got no answers.

Btw how hard was it to install the mossleman oil therm? Do you see an improvement in oil temps?

Thanks!
You will enjoy the intake. It was the first mod that I did. This may be TMI, but I created a list of the mods I wanted to do (knowing full well things may change - and they did) - but it allowed to see what was on the horizon and plan for each one and spread it out over time.

This may be an observational bias, but a few days ago I went to bootmod3 Stage 1 93 octane, and I swear the intake sounds are louder. Much more noticeable. I can hear it over music that I play (not loudly of course lol)

It is a mirror polished finish. They have a coated version of the mirror polished finish to eliminate any tarnish to the finish that may occur due to oxidation - but it looks matte like in appearance.
I ceramic coated the charge cooler, 3 coats with a heat resistant ceramic coating. Only time will tell how it performs.

Go for it! Several engine bays on this forum challenged me to do something I’ve never done before and the chase was fun - now that I can look back and see how it all came together.

The Mosselman thermostat was not that difficult to install. There are a few youtube video’s but the one by HKP Tuning entitled “Mosselman Turbo Thermostat install on BMW M3/M4/M2 Competition S55 Engine” was the most informative. They walk through the entire process - from towel placement to catch the oil and coolant, unbolting the inlet charge cooler line from the alternator and front of the engine; to move it out of the way to make the installation process less frustrating. There is no surprises, except the volume of coolant that comes out once the thermostat is released.

I ordered it with a new gasket and washers for the oil line. I also applied 3 coats of heat resistant ceramic to the exterior of the thermostat. I’ll monitor it for oxidation.

Unrelated - I don’t daily this. I have tracked it - and plan on more events. And I don’t baby it. But I do detail the engine bay once every 6 months. Because of the coolant and oil that spilled - I had to do it again after installing the thermostat.

With respect to oil temps - the 20 degree celsius (yes - I thought it was fahrenheit, but it is in celsius) is legit and real. I’m sure there will be opportunities in the future for me to log temps on the track and see how they compare to pre-thermostat data. That said, what I’m seeing now is a 20 degree drop in temps regardless of how hard I drive it. The temp gauge doesn’t move.
