M performance exhaust v2?

I read somewhere that BMW made a v2 that doesn't have the cracking and other issues? Any truth to that? Part # still the same? how can you tell?

Yes they finally added structural reinforcements to the damn thing. It's the same part number except the new ones end in 04 (and some late production 03). You can tell it is the new version by looking for the brackets connecting the tips to the muffler can.

Does anyone want to try to design these brackets with CAD, and make these brackets out of titanium for those that want to reinforce V1 Exhausts?

Every good welder can do it, no CAD needed.

Great idea. BMW should offer these brackets separately to Version 1 owners to weld on themselves.

I've seen people do their own versions of the bracket with just a titanium bar, but this looks easy for someone to design, I like where the welds are with this latest bracket, looks very do-able.

If someone is willing to do it, I'm willing to contribute my MPE for it to happen.

This is really good, I just would prefer something where the V2 brackets actually weld to. They probably engineered the V2 brackets over long term stress loads

Thank you!

Definitely not all of them, the one I have has zero cracks. But definitely a number of them. If your’s has that bracket, it’s V2

I dont think the brackets will fix the problem,I reckon the perforated pipe welded to inside of the muffler , is not titanium , and is causing hot and cold problems with the titanium .No way in this world is that pipe going into the muffler needing a bracket.
Has anyone ever cut into the MPE muffler to inspect, I doubt it.
Have had 4 Akra systems which are a work of art, had this MPE fitted on car when brand new 11 months ago and covered just under 8k miles and has cracked. Not fit for purpose which is a shame as it sounds nice under load , especially at 5k miles when fully broken in.

Just cracked my version 1 and they replaced with version 2 which has this supporting bracket welded in place so no more stress cracking... so far so good

Thanks for this guys helped me with my cracked exhaust. SA didn't really know anything about the Titanium MPE. Guess they have these readily available as mine got installed within a week. Haven't picked it up yet but fingers crossed it's the right one!

Good to see a picture of the v2 exhaust - I have a v1 which has already been welded but now it's vibrating like crazy so need to get some brackets welded onto it before it drives me mad!!!!
