When's the new F80 M3 sedan release date?

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Really wanted an E90 M3 when it came out, but was just never able to do it. Now I'm able to, but it seems like it would be foolish to get one at this point for the fact that the sedan is no longer in production (the one I want) and the body style will be obsolete and look old after the next 12 months or so.

So my option now is to either wait for the F80 M3 to come out, or sign a lease on a 2013 335i now.

Does anyone have any idea when the new M3 sedan is expected to be released/go into production/start deliveries? Is this 18 months or more out? If so, am I right to assume it makes the most sense to sign a 24 month lease on a new 2013 335i now?

The other option might be to forgo the new M3 entirely and get a Tesla Model S Performance, and I'd only have to wait 6 months for that.

Talking to my salesman (here in Germany through military sales) he said that he THINKS that orders could be taken on them as early as next April or May with deliveries around September. That is his assumption based on 10 years of working with new BMWs.

Look for debut Q1-Q2 of 2014. Market release a few months after.

Yes, Q1-Q2 of 2014.

The E92 M3 coupe will be produced until mid-2013 and the E93 M3 until a few months after the coupe stops production. The successor M3/M4 will come as a 2014 model year car and only after all E9x models cease production. Expect debut Q1-Q2 of 2014.

That sounds really odd. Especially after talking to my salesman. I know they dont have all the answers, but he said he is expecting a full release in spring of 2013 (Q2 2013) and expects to see them hit owner's hands in the fall of 2013 (Q4 2013-Q1 2014).

Not sure why they would wait until FY 2014 is almost over to actually start getting cars out. That would be a complete departure of normal practice of pretty much all auto makers. We are starting to see 2013 cars already hitting dealers and we are in Q2 of 2012 right now.

The info I posted above is directly from BMW officials familiar with and responsible for the product planning of the F80 M3.

Jason is speaking the truth. The release was pushed back because of internal politics and marketing considerations. They do not want to kill off sales of the E92/93 M cars while there is still demand. The car, like the new M5 and M6 was, is on target to be finished well before the on sale date. Next summer/fall debut (depends on the Frankfurt date ) and sales commencing in Spring of 2014.

That is the current off the record unofficial inside word- can that change due to some unforeseen circumstance, yes.

Also- the M6 Gran Coupe is slated for a debut before the F80, next summer.

So they will be calling it a 2015 then? Because that would make no sense at all to call it a 2014 unless its a 2014.5 with a quick introduction of the 2015.

If that does happen, still skeptical, then I guess I will be getting a 2013.5 E92 M3 instead as I want one before I leave here and dont want to have to fly back over to take delivery.

They just did that same scenario with the F30, didn't they? Could be winter of 2013 optimistically but it is more realistic for 2014 as that is more or less what we are hearing.

Depending on your date of exit (USAREUR etc.)- you can have the car shipped stateside without any need to be here; happens all the time. Just have to have the bill of sale complete. Lots of troops leaving now are doing just that.

It's quite common, the E92 M3 came out in March 2008 as a 2008 model.

I know, I just want to "earn" my 'ring sticker on that car too, same as my current 135i. Lol.

Im leaving for deployment in a couple weeks, so ill be able to sit and watch all the rumors and then see them turn into real facts and then make my decision as to which car i go with. Its down to one of the last E92s or one of the first F82s...

Wait, you're meaning the F82 M3/4 Coupe? If so that one won't be out before Fall 2014 (at the earliest)/Spring 2015 (at the latest).

The M3 Sedan will be presented as a Concept car at either Geneva or Shanghai in the 1st quarter of 2013.
The production car will follow through with its premiere at the IAA , Frankfurt in September 2013.
European sales will begin that winter , US sales will commence in the 1st quarter of 2014.

So you are saying there wont be a 2014 M3/4 Coupe?

That sounds absurd.

Exactly, there won't be a 2014 M3/4 Coupe, just like there wasn't a 2007 M3 Coupe.

Why no F80 M3 Sedan? I'm a coupe person myself but somehow prefer the new model with too many doors over the right amount of doors in the old model. Just my 2 cents, though.

I dont know, I guess ill cross that bridge when it comes.

Im trading my 135i in before deployment, and then they are holding my order until i get back. My salesman said he would put 2014 M3 on there, just so i get THE first slot for one, but also I can change to whatever vehicle I want when the time actually comes to finalize the order.

Id really like the new M3, I just would also really like to stay with a coupe.

Guess its a good problem to have though. :-)

Thanks Jason! We have the same timeline ETA. Based on previous launches as well. Im preparing already for a ED for late 2014. Hehe. I will be getting a sedan m3/m4.

Wow. That means probably no M4 Coupe until late 2015!
