Latest coding - ruined DCT!
Hi all, not sure if this is a new release or not but my late '18 CP just had its engine oil service and there was some 'coding due' ... I should've said no as I've been pretty happy with the setup. Anyway, they seem to have backed off the aggression of the DCT so that S3 is now like what S2 was ... the aggressive 'push through' that could get the tyres chirruping on changes is completely gone and it feels much more like the ZF8 frankly.
Also the cold start has become stupid loud - whenever you start the car it now frightens small children. Lastly it clearly turned activesound back on - and it reminded me how daft it is - the drone at low revs is not acceptable for me - I've coded it back off so it's fine again ... all makes me feel BMW is becoming more and more about 'show' rather than 'go' Rant over ... I'm sure I'll get over it! |

There's been reports of some owners having glitches with GTS on newer cars. I don't believe it affects all cars. In which case the solution for affected cars is the CS DCT, which has shown to be fine.

Did they say why they did a software update? Is it because the new software allows them to detect tunes better?

The main issue is the OPF setting which creates a terrible drone - if you set the CompetitionPaket back to 'yes' and then the 'volume' down to ML (quietest) it isn't too bad. I'll take a look the the GTS flash for DCT - I seem to remember people liking it for smoothness - it is aggressive?? Rich. |

Bimmer link allows you to turn it on/off on demand. I find this useful when riding with parents and want to quiet the cabin up a little or on long road trips. In that case I turn asd off and close the flaps. It sounds like a regular 3 series at that point.

Maximum torque per gear reduced?... Assuming they've re-flashed the DME the later software may have maximum torque reduced per gear (compared to factory DME). In this case a transmission software update won't make any difference. If the cold start has changed it's likely that the DME has been re-flashed.
You can see if the i-step (software integration level) has been updated if you ask the dealer to give you key read print out, it will show the factory i-step and current i-step. Alternatively you can use ISTA-D / Rheingold to display |

I wonder if Bmw does this on purpose. When I got my 340 in 2016 it was a torque monster. After one year I took it in for service and when I got it back i noticed torque was a lot lower at lower rpms. I was pissed as that's what I loved about it. I called the dealer and they said there was a bmw update that they did. That could explain it. It feels like BS to me. Perhaps they do that on purpose to get great reviews and then tone it down later on for warranty purposes or something like that.
