Waze coming to CarPlay Dashboard

For those who want Waze on the main dashboard screen with date, calendar information, etc. this is coming soon.

Is there a way to customize the map GUI? I feel like Waze is too busy even with the notifications turned down. I feel like the simplicity of google maps makes it easier to follow, see traffic zones etc. unfortunately it doesn't notify you or speed cameras which is the only reason I use Waze now

You can choose within Waze what you want to appear on the maps, as well as be notified for. For example, I have notifications removed for hazards along the side of the road. It was just too much for living in a metropolitan area on highways.

You can adjust the settings for what appears on the GUI and what notifications by going to:
Settings > Map Display > View on Map: Reports >

And then you'll see this screen to customize.

I don’t have CarPlay in my car (had in a BMW loaner once and hated it). My wife has it in her Volvo XC60 we use for road trips and Waze is pretty near perfect there. I hope the changes being introduced don’t screw that up. We don’t need split screen with widgets so hopefully that’s an option.

The dashboard of CarPlay won't have widgets if you're thinking about how widgets appear on iOS 14. The split screen showing parts of iDrive will remain unless you code it out to go CarPlay full screen. I recommend kubax86 for that if you're interested.

Yeah, Volvo did it right. BMW still wants to shove iDrive interface down your throat with a split screen iDrive + CarPlay :

Again, unless you want to just code that split screen out and make it CarPlay full screen. It makes a huge difference.

I love wake too. Coded full screen Carolay and it's great. Better than a radar detector. I like that it automatically connects and opens in Waze when I get in my car. I have an 2018 as an FYI.

This feature is available in the new G20 3 Series. I doubt BMW is going to retrofit this in the F8x.

Road hazards is one of the best features especially if you’re lowered and/or have a front lip or just want to avoid potholes. That’s unless you have natural ninja reflexes.

I love Waze,, use it all the time ,, love heads up on the police reports.

I also use it on my Harley Streetglide , I especially like it for the heads up on the railroad tracks,, not so important in the car but it does give you a heads up to slow down if you think they are rough.

Includes the map with alerts that you've opted in for, speedometer, and turn by turn directions (next turn as shown on dashboard - not the entire route turn by turn directions list).

Yeah I've been using Waze beta on TestFlight a while now and it works great. I got the $200 Chinese airplay box on a 2015 m4 and it works like a dream

As an anecdotal data point, I'm still on iOS 13 and I can access Waze (version 4.69.2, seems to be the latest) on wireless CarPlay in my 2018 F83. I started on Waze about a week back after seeing this thread. My dash seems identical to your screenshot.

You don't need the TestFlight version of Waze anymore. Just download Waze and you'll have access to this now, it's public.

The map app chosen on the dashboard isn't intuitive. I thought there was a way to hard-set which Maps app is used; but it defaults to the most recent Maps app you choose/open. So if Waze isn't showing yet, just open Waze, then go back to the dashboard screen and you'll see Waze as the Maps app displayed. If you want Google Maps, do the above for Google Maps and so on.

Looking forward to hopefully a time when you can hard-set which app is used...
