Bootmod vs. dyno tune

Would you recommend bootmod or a dyno tune? I've found they are the same price, and want to get your thoughts on the two.

If I'm correct bootmod has a bunch of maps that you can use. So if I want to use the stage 2 map I can, when I'm not looking for that power I could use their burble or flame tune? That seems a lot more appealing than a dyno tune. Let me know.

It heavily depends on your tuner.

Powerwise, bootmod3 offers off-the-shelf tunes. They are excellent, safe, reliable, and have a lot of power.

But as with any off-the-shelf tune, you must be conservative.

A custom tune, like the dyno one, has more room for power so that they can be more aggressive, but in most cases, your local tuner is nowhere near as good or experienced on turbo BMW as the PTF team, so there is a chance something goes wrong.

By doing a custom tune, you lose all the bm3 features, and anytime you wish to change a setting, your tuner might not know how to or if they do, you will have to wait for them to be free, and they will most likely charge you for it.

If this is a daily driver, I will go with bootmod3.

Bootmod3…(drops the mic, walks off stage)

I did custom BPM to start. It was so foolish. Nickel and dime to change any little thing…

What’s your mods?

I'm in a similar situation to OP. I have a 18 f80 with bench unlocked DME. The shop that unlocked my dme also did a Dyno tune. He's a good tuner and well known in my area but I've wanted to try bm3 tunes and I like the on the fly customizability. If I flash bm3 I lose my Dyno tune. So I'm very torn on doing it.

What is your WHP with your dyno tune and are you happy with the drivability? Since it is older you night be wise to switch over to a more updated OTS tune. Just inquire with proTUNING Freaks They will give you an honest answer and not try to sell you
