What harness is this?

this wire touched the battery terminal and caught on fire. does anyone know which harness this is? can i solder this wire or wire this without replacing the whole harness?

It's for the Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS), traditionally part of the negative cable on other BMWs, but it's built into the Lithium Ion battery on ours, so it's a separate cable that plugs into the battery.

Would i be able to salvage the ibs wireby soldering it?

I think you should figure out how it shorted and burned out in the first place.

The wire is insulated and touching the battery post shouldn't cause it to melt like that, unless it wore through the insulation over time.

The wires are fairly thin, so I would be ok with splicing and fixing it. You could use a multimeter to check how much current is running through, or just connect it and feel the wire to see if it's heating up again.

Houston...... we have a problem. Post a pic of your battery and the plug that goes in the side. Also I am surprised you don't have a christmas tree dash
