I just did a 2900 mile round trip from Austin to Arizona and California for the holidays and my Uniden R3 saved my several times. Really great long range alerts with plenty of advanced notice. Not the most expensive unit but really impressed with the bang for the buck!

Valentines used to be the goat - they're still really good and if you have one there's no point of replacing it but for anyone considering it: get a Uniden R7 and don't look back.

Ordered my first radar detector - V1 Gen2 based on all the good reviews etc. Happy to hear experience with V1 G2.

Need help with mounting ideas, given that I drive mostly top-down not a big fan of sticking it next to the rearview mirror. Want to see how others' mounted theirs especially without a roof

Thanks!
Nobody with a vert here who can chime in? :/

Used the blend-mount and mirror tap, remains in my field of vision, especially with the extra noise with the top down.

Haven't run a detector in 10+ years, but just bought an R7 and am pretty excited. Can somebody give me a quick rundown on optimum settings/filters, so I can get up and running? Headed to Indy this weekend for the CFP and would like to test it out.

I'm in Ga and drive pretty much SE US.

I run mine just slightly above the mirror on the drivers side. Still more-or-less invisible from outside (especially at speed), and because i hid the cable under the trim, there’s nothing hanging down. I should probably get a mirror tap, but eh, maybe next year if the wire situation bugs me.

I’ll try to remember to take a photo next time I’m outside, but it’s 9 degrees right now, and my M4 is under a cover.

That's great! Are you powering it using the 12v that's under the glovebox?

OK, I got this thing and it's quite obvious the suction cups stink. I've got a trip to take tomorrow I need a decent way to mount this thing so that it's not falling off every five seconds. I'm thinking of simply Velcroing it to the top of my M4 instrument cluster in my direct line of sight. I see what looks like venting on the bottom, so I presume I need to Velcro behind that. Any other thoughts as to a temporary fix until I can find a mount?

Since you just got the R7, the small 2 OOB suction cups should do it. Have you tried to tap them hard enough before mounting the detector in the hanger? Try that, if not. I have been using mine last 3 days and it's very sturdy. Also, perhaps mount it right above the rearview mirror either driver's right or passenger side. The rearview mirror also sort of supports it.

I am using it that way currently, before I can order the Blend-mount is in stock.

Another option can be double-sided tapes which will be easy to take off once you have the mount. Velcros usually have adhesive which is harder to take off and leaves residue.

+1 - I am running the R7 and used his website & YouTube channel. If it is a recent purchase, do yourself a favor and update the software 1st.

How does R7 compare to the new Redline 360 that came out? The latter one is $750 vs $500 for R7

Been running a Uniden R3 hardwired with blend mount for a while now and its worked well. In retrospect would have been nice to have the direction detection of the R7

Just want to share since it just got posted on Slickdeals, the Uniden R3 is on sale for $260 if anyone is interested.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0743H6CSN...f_=as_li_ss_tl

I have one and paid ~$340 IIRC about 2 years ago, I've contemplated getting the R7 for the directional arrows but this does what it's supposed to.
