Value on M2c vs M3c

People who have owned both what’s your take on it? I know there’s a good amount of forums on this already. I’m not only interested in hearing from people who have owned both but also which model you think will hold its value better down the road.

I’d expect M2 CS to hold its value better, as there were far less of them (at least here in Australia). They are already commanding a significant premium over the M3, and well above original MSRP.

I agree.. The markets been so crazy the last couple of years. It’s hard to tell what’s going to hold and what’s going to come down

I think the M2CS vs M3CS is a good indicator of what will happen in the future with M3 vs M2 or M3C vs M2C. Since M3 is a sedan, it's a more "normal" car. While M3 will always attract some sort of enthusiast attention, I believe M2 being a coupe will spark more enthusiast vibes and keep the value up. Who knows though...

i went from m3 to m2c.

the m2c feels more fun to drive around town and backroads. it feels closer in size to the e36 and e46, while the f80 is closer in feel to the e39 5 series. the m3 is better at eating up highway miles and daily driving as you can spec more color options inside and get a leather dash. the merino leather is nicer than dakota.

most reviews pick the m2c over the m3. In chris harris' review he talks about the M2 comps biggest competition being a used f80, but he still picks the m2c as the one to have.

the m2 comp brakes have way more stopping power than the base blue f80 brakes in my personal opinion.

value is a difficult one to answer. really depends on what options you got on the f80 and if its a manual / ccb / individual color.

I see way less manual m2c and tons of manuals in m3c and n55 OG m2. It's always the rare individual and rare specs that hold their value the most regardless of gen.

I have the M2C brakes on my M3C - you're right, it's a nice upgrade! (Plug and play, btw...)

I'm hoping this holds true for me - although I don't know how rare it is. The color itself is not rare, but the rest of the option set is (i.e., comp cloth seats).

I’ve read a good amount of reviews with people saying the same thing. You don’t mind not having EDC? I also wondered if the M2c has the coding ability the M3 has as in steering, diff, mdm, etc. Couldn’t find anything about that

The % of value retention probably will be about the same down the road for identical mileage, use, mainatenmce and condition scenarios. Maybe a nod to the M3 because it’s an icon and the F80 is the last one with analog gauges, DCT, analog hand brake and more traditional size and design. M2C has all of that as well which will also be a win for long term value.

The M2 feels like a smaller car when driving and also inside from the driver seat. 4 doors and useable back seats on M3 vs 2 doors and tight back seats on M2. Which one is better for your use case?

I don't mind no edc. Car rides well enough for me. But I also don't live in a city filled with potholes like Chicago. Yes m2 has the same coding abilities with diff, steering, mdm. The comp and cs have the same steering coding. Diff I'm not sure.

2020+ bmws have a locked dme though. So I think you need to pull out the ecu to code them. Can't just plug up through the obd2. You can do other coding like turn off seat belt chimes and active sound through obd2 though

Personally I would be fine with either one. I had an E82 a couple years ago and now a 340i. So I’ve realized I’m happy with a 2 door or 4 door either way (no kids or anything like that right now). That’s what makes the decision more difficult in my case

I wonder when Bootmod3 will be able to unlock that. So any 2020 can’t be unlock? Or does it go by build date?

here is a good thread with all the info. not sure if bm3 will ever be able to unlock it. im honestly not sure what all you would need to do to unlock a 2020+ car but it is possible and lots have done it. just might need to pay extra.

how to remove dme: https://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1852318

Depends on when the car was produced. My F87 had a production date of July 31st 2019. Had to get my DME pulled to get it bench unlocked but have been fine running MHD since then. I know Enabled had some great endeavors in another thread regarding unlocking later production date DMEs so maybe he could chime in here.

Thanks I appreciate the help and all the linked forums. At this point I guess I’m going with whatever I get a better deal on between the M2 and M3.
