TBH... I see more hatred for the e92 than the e9x crowd bashing the new car. Sure there are some who won't accept the new motor, looks etc but that's their view. The new car will one objectively perform better no doubt, but looks are subjective. I happen to like the styling of both. I don't get why it has to be hate one, love the other? Both cars have their strong points. I still respect the e46.. Every M car has its place.

My only issue with the new M3/M4 is the hood/front bumper line - on lighter colors it drives me nuts.

E92 over F82 exterior all day long. Those silly eyelids on the F82 won't stand the test of time. They made a big mistake squishing and lowering the kidneys below the front hood line...they were perfectly placed on the E92 already. Also the whole rear end looks too stretched out on the F82 in the side profile. The E92 is nicely in proportion. When it comes to ageing, simplicity (read: elegance) wins. The lines are smoother and simpler on the E92.

I think you'll eventually find otherwise. The front end is what makes this car so aggressive.

Basically it's all people who bought them used at a heavy discount compared to original MSRP and can't afford the new car.

As a former e46 M3 owner and current Porsche owner, I never liked the E9x series. I don't know exactly why, maybe it's the cheap interior or the fact that it's kind of a ricer. But this new M4 has brought me back to BMW and I couldn't be happier about that. The current F8x is a revolution not an evolution. The M4/M3 is now in the big leagues with a high-end interior and an aggressive exterior, while a simple Dinan tune will push the car past 480hp when it's released. I don't hate the E9x, it's just not my style, doesn't feel European enough, meaning it just doesn't have the refinement I expect from a BMW. I couldn't be happier that BMW has made these changes and hope to purchase one in the near future.

The proof for me will be, as in my choosing the e92, how it looks over a few years--- it took me more than five years to appreciate the e92 M3, seeing them driving around, and then even enough to want to actually buy it.
The new gen will have to pass the same test... Not the kobayashi maru... How the design holds up over time. (I have no doubts about the driving dynamics)
