Absolutely no vibration in my F80...but it also just turned over 2000 miles.

I have experienced a similar vibration/shimmy in past cars. It was usually related to a bent wheel. Have you looked closely at your tire wear?

I have a vibration from around 80mph upwards it depends on the road surface how bad it is, I can grip the wheel and it stops but hold a pen on the wheel and you can see it's vibrating.

I know what it is as they had hell on trying to balance the inside front wheel as it's out of round when I changed tyres (that wheel takes all the hits from potholes RHD) but I just live with it as the car is going back in 6 months.

Had a friend who had his 2016 F80 bought back because of a steering issue. He had his car aligned, and checked out by BMW, multiple times. Turned out that the mechanism that is used to change the vehicle's steering in different driving diving modes had failed. The car would literally steer itself into another lane when you took your hands off the steering wheel.

Maybe get it checked out?

Considering this has happened on 2 M3's I've owned, I think it's just a combination of shitty roads and a tightly tuned suspension.
I agree!

Thats interesting....in Comfort steering my car steers fine, but in Sport I seem to have a bit of slack around the straight ahead position.
I'll have to get it looked at.

I would have thought the title of the thread would be "my car steers all over the road" if that was the case, rather than a small vibration?

These cars all have that slack. Get the GTS Steering coding done (it's not a tune so shouldn't void your warranty). In my experience it has gotten rid of that slack and makes the steering wheel much more direct, and a bit heavier but manageable

Mine seems to have gotten worse lately....to the point where you have to constantly adjust the steering in order to stay in your lane.

Oo wow. Yeah there may be more to that then. That being said, the first thing we did on my wife's F80 was the GTS coding for the Steering after finding the car wandering and having a dead spot when we were in Europe for ED. Since then the car has been solid. Then, when I purchased my F80 ZCP and drove it on the highway home I thought I had bought a lemon. It felt impossible to keep it straight or in a lane. But it was because I was used to the GTS steering. Coded my car 5 days later and have no issues anymore. Car no longer wanders and doesn't have that dead spot on those same roads.

My point being that, while non-GTS does have some wandering that was fixed by the coding (at least for me), it shouldn't wander to the point that it becomes almost undriveable on a longer journey.

My recommendation, pony up the $100 or so and get the coding done. Then see how you feel. If it is still just as bad, ask the dealer to take a look.

I must be lucky - no slack or jitters whatsoever on my previous ‘15 m4 and current ‘18 m3 - actually quite the opposite, immediate steering response and solid as a rock

Well, the issue started off small, and gradually the steering feel got worse over time. Just wanted to let the OP know, just in case it gets worse.

Hmm... maybe it's a Comfort Steering issue? Now that I'm thinking about it, with my F80 ZCP w/ Comfort on Steering, freeway driving the car does wonder between the lines a bit and it drives me crazy enough to put the steering into Sport to resolve it.

Haven't done my coding yet but I probably should.

None. when I had other brands of aftermarket wheels (I won't mention) I did have some issues here and there but since I have been with HRE wheels never had any issues whatsoever neither have I had any with OEM wheels. If you are having any issues start with a balance and go from there. You can also check shocks etc.. could have some issues with some of the various pieces of suspension list goes on. Take it to your dealer or a good shop and you will get it fixed

I was thinking its the opposite in my car...ok in Comfort but wandering in Sport but only really noticeable on the freeway.
I'll have to pay more attention.

Does anybody have any more updated info on this? I recently bought a 2018 F80 and felt the described vibration over 80mph. Went back to the dealer and asked for another one they had in stock to make a comparison. Same feeling..... feels strange this happens though and am having a hard time just accepting as something “normal”

Any feedback much appreciated

I know what the problem is because I had it as well. It's your 2 piece driveshaft that's out of balance. I had to hire a third party consultant to balance the driveshaft in the car. My vibration is now gone. I had to chase BMW for 8 months on my 2018 ZCP to get resolved.

Does your steering wheel jitter a little bit?

Mine does it a bit sometimes. But nothing like when I had my spacers on. I took them off (15MM), and the vibration went away.
