It all depends. I'm actually willing to transfer over the lease payment as-is (no recuperation of any money put down) and offer a $1000 incentive on top of taking care of the $500 lease transfer fee. Are you in New York? This car is in California.

I am in New York so I would have to have the car shipped. I've done it before and it costs about $2k which I'm prepared to do because the payment is so appealing. I'm not sure how it would work with taxes though because I'm NY we pay 8% sales tax of the vehicle price so I'm not sure if that would get added on to the monthly payment or if it would need to be paid upfront. Do you happen to know how BMW Financial does it?

I'll be honest, I'm not sure how that would be handled by BMW FS. I can look into it. California only taxes your base lease payment, not the entire price of the vehicle.

Did you pay any taxes upfront? I can try to call BMW FS and see if this is a feasible transfer or if it would be too much headache, I'm sure they would know

No, the monthly payment is just taxed. Please let me know what BMW FS says as I'm sure others might be interested some day and can find this thread on the forum search function.

Just talked to BMW Financial Services and the way it works in NY is you take the amount of money left on the lease (not the payoff) and that's what gets taxed so msrp - what you've paid - final payoff = amount left x .08 and that's what I would owe to the DMV upfront
