Service at dealership after maintenance plan expires?

Does everyone still take their cars to their dealership for service after the included maintenance plan period/mileage has lapsed?

Every time I go in for service, I keep my fingers crossed when handing over the keys.

The only reason I take it to the dealership now is it's free. I still don't even trust them that much since the car doesn't have a dipstick. I have a great shop by me where I can watch them/talk to them while they're doing it, and they let me bring my own parts so I know it's done right. But not everyone has that option obviously. He only charges me $30 for the labor so for me that's worth it.

Find an indy shop if you aren't comfortable with the dealer.

Why keep your fingers crossed. You should ask upfront what work will be done and what it will cost. Don’t do the service yourself unless you know what you are doing, it is not just oil and oil filter changes and you need specific material for some things which most people just don’t have laying around.

Especially under warranty I would never recommend that people should do their own maintenance because then you might as well don’t get any warranty at all. Maybe it works like this in the land of the free but this is certainly not true for all countries.

this is what i was getting at .... i have a place close to my shop that specializes in bmw/'s

i can stand there and watch them (and like you said) know its done right !

going to a dealership is a joke - on my S6 the service dept at Audi left all their tools under my hood only to discover them after i got home

bmw left my oil cap loose after a service which of course lit up my dash on the way home ....

i mean COME ON !!!!!!

i just don't trust them with my car

This has got nothing to do with the brand or dealer, just some mechanics being sloppy which can happen at any shop.
