Which summer tires to buy?
I will likely need new summer tires next year, what do you guys recommend? I think the super sports wear pretty well for a performance tire but they do seem to have problems putting the power down. I have the 20’ 666s if that factors into the equation.

Depends on how much rain you'll see in the summer.
Pilot Sport 4S is an almost unbeatable daily driver tire currently. Excellent wet performance. Sport Cup 2 will bite better but in my opinion, it gets very shady in wet conditions and not worth it for street driving unless you barely see any rain in the summer. Putting the power down in an f8x consistently will require you to go with some higher performance tires that are too much of a liability to street for me. My Nitto NT01s bite HARD but I really don't like driving them in the street and keep my PSS on instead. |

Most "regular" summer tires are going to have problems putting the power down.
The only real upgrade from the PSS is the PS4S. You can make a lateral move to a Continental ECS. It trades shots with the PSS in terms of capability, and it's cheaper. I haven't looked into it too much so I don't know if the required sizing is available. If you want to hook up hard yet retain some semblance of wet weather ability, then get a set of RE71R. Still street legal, not a R comp tire so you won't get into trouble with the law. They will wear quickly though. |

There are some anecdotes floating around that some race teams are using them as a cheap intermediate tire as the dampness helps keep them from overheating. https://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1618177 Thread of some guy here who's running them. |

I’ve been running the RE71r’s for almost 2 years now. Except for them being on the noisy side, which doesn’t bother me and the car isn’t a daily anyway, they definitely hook up especially past 90 degrees(tire temp). Over 100 degrees you can actually hear them gripping the pavement. They’re very confident inspiring when driving the car like it should be driven. I’m running them in 265/35 and 305/30.
