So I just posted a bunch of info on this topic over in the DIY forum, but I thought I would chime in here. I saw this post while I was out and about, so when I got home on a whim I took my voltmeter back to the fuse box again to look specifically at fuse 125. First, in my car, I don't have a fuse in this spot, but this spot is still connected to the main voltage bus inside the fuse box. So if you have a fuse there you have some other option (or component) that is not installed in my car (my car is a MY17 M3).

After I turned off the car (engine off and ignition off) the fuse 125 spot remained live. Then, as expected, approx 10-15 min later, fuse 125 turned off when the car finally went to sleep. Now, depending on the electrical load of your accessory, having the battery power it for the 10-15 min after the ignition is turned off may not be that big a deal for the battery as the LiPo battery in the F8X is very resilient (I have done 20+ min coding sessions a few times on the battery without issue). That said, given a choice, I would rather use a fuse location that is truly tied to the ignition when the ignition is off (meaning these fuses instantly turn off when the ignition is off). The only fuses that do this are fuses 143-148 & 154.

I use fuse slot 125 for my NEO (and extended battery pack). I have a 2018 M3. I do not receive any warning error messages. But, I also have the car coded to turn everything off when I open my door.

If you used the "standard" method to code the car turning off when opening your door (which I have done as well and is very common for this particular mod) you will still have some circuits that will stay energized for 10-15 min after the ignition is turned off - even after you have opened your door (as BMW designed the car to have several circuits that do this). I have experienced this myself with my own car. The "standard" method that I am referring to above is merely designed to turn off the radio/iDrive when you open the door - but all other systems that remain energized for a short period of time after the ignition is turned off remained untouched.

Now it should be theoretically possible to change the shutdown behavior of other circuits within the car with coding, but I personally have not explored that. So if you did that (coded other circuits in the car to shutdown when opening your door - in particular the circuit associated with Fuse 125) that is more advanced level coding. Otherwise, fuse 125 in your car is still powered for a short duration after the ignition is turned off.

All that being said, it is interesting that some MY18 cars sense a battery drain condition when using fuse 125, while others don't. I would be curious to know if that is due to differences in I-Step (the car's baseline software that is updated from time to time by the dealer), or due to an unknown fault in the affected cars.

Hi guys,

I have a similar setup on my 2016 M4 (2ch 650GW) with the exception that I'm trying to use the Power Magic EZ accessory from BlackVue.

This thing should power the camera out of the main car battery over the OBD port, while giving you options to configure a time duration for the parking mode or run it until the battery drops below a certain voltage, or turning the parking mode off altogether (thus powering off the camera when the ignition goes off).

I decided to go this route since I don't need the parking mode very often and those few times I would not even needed for more than a few hours.

Problem is that apparently it doesn't seem to work on my car: no matter what I do that thing will keep powering the camera.

Of course now I have to manually disconnect it from the OBD every time, since I don't want to get my battery drained.

Does anybody here have experience with the Power Magic EZ? Does anybody experienced similar issues with it? Or should I just assume I got a faulty unit?

Thanks

Sample Footage (Edit: sorry, but you will have to bare with my terrible choice in music):

For reference, my front windshield is 80% tint and my rear windshield is 15% tint.

Hi Eugene, may I ask what is the blend mount model number for the blackvue 750?

I have the blackvue 900 and think the mount is the same.

Also anyone know where to mount the rear camera if you have the sun shade ?

Cheers

I have the rear sunshade on my F80. I mounted the rear camera centered on the 3rd brake light plastic trim piece. On that piece there a semi-plastic "lip" that touches the rear window and is approx an inch wide. That is where I attached the rear camera with the included double sided tape.

I posted a thread about installing a dash cam "the OEM way" and there is a pic of how I installed my rear cam there.

Hey Mate, was wondering whether there would be a difference for left hand and right hand drive ?

The blend mount to have no issue ? Or is the mirror different ?

not sure about that since the region difference could have different peices for the mirror housing. probably the same though. compare picture with yours

The BlendMount is left hand drive specific and can't simply be "flipped" in order to work on a right hand drive car. Not sure why BlendMount did not make right hand drive variants of their mount as it seems there would be a market for it.

Another user on the forums did modify one to fit a right hand drive car though. He took the applicable part of the blend mount, took measurements and put them into a CAD program, then "flipped" it accordingly in the software, and finally made the part on a CNC machine out of aluminum. It was actually pretty slick and looks (and fits) just like a left hand drive version - except it is for a right hand drive car.

Do a search for it. I believe he was also willing to share the CAD files so any shop with a CNC machine could make the part fairly easily (or have an online company make one for you).

Question on the memory capacity options for these BlackVue cameras: is it purely a difference of the GB size of the SD card it comes with, or do they actually restrict the capacity in the BlackVue to whatever size you order?

Or in other words, if I get the 32 GB model can I use my own 256 GB SD card?

SD card. But if you use a third party card, these cameras can be kind of picky and not work. Make sure to get the "high endurance" cards.

You can use your own micro SD card. All the newer Blackvue cams can take up to 256 GB. Between my experience with aftermarket ones and my coworker who got the upgraded Blackvue card, I'd recommend going aftermarket and just keeping the low capacity one it ships with as a backup. I've had no problem with my Samsung Pro Endurance at all. My Transcend High Endurance failed after about a year but they replaced it for free under their warranty and it's been fine for over a year since then. My coworker is waiting for his 3rd warranty replacement Blackvue card since he installed his cam in the beginning of the year.

Has anyone mounted on Vert so far? I was told to use a go pro mount attached to the rear headrest. Any recommendations?
