What's annoying me about this even more than not knowing when a fix is coming, is that BMWFS won't even give me a payout of my current lease because there is a pending recall.

What is even worse is that I have someone waiting to assume my lease but can't continue with the assumption until the recall is performed and no one knows when that will be

I don’t think there will be a fix anytime soon. BMW doesn’t know what to do or just don’t want to spend money right now to fix it.

FYI, even though the campaign didn't show for my car it was within the year range and my dealer replaced the driveshaft. They also replaced the rear dust shields also under recall.

Interesting what year is your m3? My 2015 m4 is making a clunk noise which seems to match exactly with a problem noticed on the old e9x generation ( https://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=175885 ). Crossing my fingers that I might be able to get it fixed for free. Haven't seen anyone that experienced this on the f8x platform my car only has 14k miles on it.

I have a clunk noise when the car is cold and a huge hesitation if I leave the tranmission in D1 (efficient/smooth) slowing down while in 3rd gear it struggles lol since I got the car in the summer, but after talking to other DCT owners it seems when flashing GTS DCT its gone.

I don't think mine is like yours. No issue performance wise and I have a 6spd. Mine sounds like a bolt snapping into place. The sound comes from what seems like under the drivers seat and is especially noticeable when I am on a hill and move from a stop. Also when the car enters a rut (parking lots where the asphalt changes to concrete) Really making me nervous now as I now hear multiple clicks on weight transfer. Happens no matter the temperature as well.

I'm scheduled next week to have the recall work done. They said it's a half-day to full-day job.

Update from Switzerland:

I had the car in for warranty work at a Zurich dealer, and when I got it back
they informed me of the recall. I had asked them back in early December and said they didn't have any official info, so I guess they just got notice.

They said that the shaft is on order and it should arrive late February. They will need the car for a day. They also said that the new shaft is also carbon.

Yup, looks like it. I have my car in for service in Texas. They are doing the work tomorrow. I just got off of the phone with my SA who has the new shaft and confirmed that it is carbon. He also confirmed it specifically states a carbon shaft in in the SIB.

Did you buy a USA or Canadian build? I thought only USA builds were affected? What’s your model year and build date?

I don’t think the United States Department of Transportation in conjunction with BMW USA posts about Canadian cars . I could be wrong however!

My suspicion is that Canada has far fewer people in government and far fewer attorneys and therefore they handle things differently.

Short story - this probably affects cars worldwide

And ugh, no matter how many times I wrote this it always came off sounding bad-and that is not the intention!

The recall is worldwide. I have a Canadian build, and my M3 is going under the knife this Thursday. Will post an update when everything is done.

Confirmed my local dealer here in Arizona has the parts available and only quoted me 2 hours start to finish.

Update late feb March was what I was retold.

Dealership in Newport Beach said early March they will receive the part and they are surprised nobody has come in yet with a failed driveshaft.

So are the dealers calling you to come in or do you have to call them to see if the parts are available for the recall?
