Do you track your M3/M4 CS?
I have noticed quite a few dealerships that have M3 CS or M4 CS are still sitting on the lot. My local dealership has a beautiful San Marino Blue M3 CS that I am thinking of test driving. I do not plan on tracking it but was curious if those that do have a M3 CS or M4 CS, do you track it? Love the look of these cars!

Not to put too fine a point on it, but if you don't track your M3/M4 (CS or otherwise) you're missing out on about 75% of the fun of driving these cars. Track tires, pads and brake fluid, and you're good to go. These cars are designed to be on the track.

I most definitely do. The car was on the track barely 2 weeks after I took delivery .

I paid the premium (did get a 5% discount) for the CS because the dealer let me take it and a Competition for 15 minute hard drives.
The CS has to me better transient responses. I took it to MSR Houston after break in completely stock and did 4 sessions of 10-30 minutes with no brake fade or pad odor. Impressive track day car out of the box. |

Just picked mine up yesterday (SMB) and I will be taking it to the track at some point. Looking forward to getting back out there again!

Since you've tracked the CS, does the car's stock suspension feel under-sprung for slicks? I can go NT01s but would be great to be able to run some R7s or DHs.

I try to avoid too sticky tires, drives up the consumables and wear and tear on the car too much for me.

Not a CS, but on my 2015 M4, I run 18x10" ET25 fronts and
18x11" ET44 rears APEX EC-7 Wheel with 275/40-18 fronts and 305/35-18 rears, NT01s. No problems at all with rubbing.

I just ordered the same spec Apex wheels as you but the SM-10. It will be an interesting comparison between stock US spac MPSS on stock wheels and SM-10 w/ NT01s.

I bought the EC-7 when the new lighter weight Apex offerings were not yet released, if I were to do it again, I'd also go for the SM-10. ~2lbs per corner is not negligible.

Yes, if I was buying now, I would go with the SM-10s, but I'm not going to replace my EC-7s with those.

Just ordered the SM10 wheels in 18" size and same offset as above on EC7s. I ordered NT01s as well. This Sunday I'll do a comparison of the car on stock US spec MPSS vs. Apex setup on NT01s and will report back with data.

I'll be honest. I paid the premium for an M3CS with the full intent of putting it on the track once in a while. Then I started learning about getting only 2 to 5 track days out of a set of tires, stock pads glazing to rotors, rotor shutter if you heat them up to much and too often, having to swap pads out every time you track because race pads squeal like a stuck pig on the street, and if you do get a dedicated set of wheels and tires you have to swap them out to a sticky compound kicking up debris and rocks to your paint , broken headlight covers inside the wheel wells, radiators clogged with R compound rubber balls , broken windshields. etc.
Now before you guys start bashing me (ducking for cover) I get that it's totally worth it if that's your passion. . For me..,I just paid too much for the car and I realized afterwards I'm too OCD to take my pretty new $95k (including 8% tax) car out on the racetrack. One could also make the case that I did not need a CS if I was not going to track it but it is still cool having one and Street performance is of course top-notch and it looks SO bad azz I have no regrets. Personally I would have to look around for a used M2, 3 or 4 that was already set up and use it as a dedicated track car. That's just me though. P.S. In case you're wondering about my user name I've been riding and desert racing off-road motorcycles all my life. Talk about aggressive adrenaline pumping racing. I'll have to take my competitive aggressions out there for now. |
