Car and Driver M4cs Test

Car and Driver tested the M4cs. Their journalism level is quite diapointing though, with many errors across the text. Their test data does show the M4cs to be a fair bit quicker than the last M4 Competition they tested (despite what the article says). The CS is 0.8 seconds faster to 130mph and 1.5 seconds faster to 150mph, showing yet again that the S55 in CS tune has a solid top-end. Skidpad is at 1.04g, 0.05g better than the CP despite being shod on the same PSS tires. It would have been interesting to see how the M4cs would have faired if it were shod with the PSC2 it was designed for.

I was going to say that the top-end felt faster...and I've owned 4 iterations of the f8x now.

IMO, the most impressive stat here is the huge improvement on 5-60. The second most impressive is the skidpad improvement. Tough to justify the extra cost and loss of luxury for any of the other measurables, but it depends on your priorities.

That said, these cars were tested on different days. It’s possible that objective numbers would lean more in the CS’s favor if both were tested side by side.

Also, that only 35 pounds lighter was probably compared to an M4 comp with the carbon fiber driveshaft. There likely is a bigger difference in weight between the CS and a 2019/2020 M4. Still, it’s a pretty harsh indictment against the CS.

I love the test sheet, the driver says the launch control is garbage lol. The guy keeps going on and on with the door arm rest and center console, the article doesn't really go into detail of anything, and then ends up saying acceleration is the same (despite the clickable link proving otherwise...)

Definitely more than 10hp difference going on, esp considering the 1/4 mile trap speed, and the 0-130, 0-150mph performance.

Guys, 0-60 times of 3.7/3.8 hard to achieve for rwd.
Realistically its between 4.0 to 4.4 seconds.

Correct me!

Depends on condition and tires
305 r888 in the back I could easily cut 3.8 on a stock m3
32 psi warm LC 2900rpm prep 1/4 track
Small burn out the clean and warm the tires
1.7-1.8 60 ft

With my Nitto NT-01s easily.

With my Super Sports, they've got to be 100F+ for a decent chance.

I don't think most people would consider .8 seconds faster to 130 and 1.5 faster to 150 being "a fair bit quicker" - but maybe you are referring to a different M4 Comp review?

C&D is one of the few mags that corrects for altitude and atmosphere - so their tests should be considered as side by side as possible for different days (not sure about the location for the testing).

3594lb - 3645lb = 51lb difference...

You'd be surprised, it is not a negligible difference.

Only if you can get over 121 mph for a period of time - even then, that's time to that speed, not distance... Kind of reaching here if you ask me...

Not quite true. How does GT3 do it in 2.9s then? Corvettes? Demon? and many others.

Mid-Engine configuration for the GT3. I don't know a Corvette that does 2.9? But maybe a ZR1 (C&D and MT both tested 3.0 or 3.0+), Demon (Insane Launch Program and Tire Package).

Was that 51 difference with CCBs on the CS?

All the stripping they did was for 50 pounds? You could have done that by just changing rims and driveshaft.

Really some top quality work from C&D.

Evaluate drag racing capability vs. the comp because that's the point of the CS (subheadline, check). Drive in a circle, assign > roadholding to nonexistent wider tread, discuss conspicuous design details and nurburgring lap time for word count, then send the intern out for snacks and road test feedback: "uh, felt pretty intense" = "Over the road, the CS feels more intense than the already plenty tense M4 Competition."

C&D, if you're hiring, I'm humbly confident in my ability to produce similar and have been waiting for an opportunity to monetize time spent on the commode. Message me.

Both have CCB. As a tidbit, CCB are worth about 18lb on the whole car.

The 763M are worth 29lb over the 666M, so a big chunk of the weight saving is right there. Both cars compared here have the CF driveshaft.
