Clunky shifting from 3 to 2 when using D2 Drivelogic

Does anyone else have this issue? It happens intermittently for me and mostly when I am coming to a stop from a moderate/medium speed. Seems like there is a slight delay in the car downshifting and then the subsequent engagement of the 2nd gear is rougher than it should be. All other gears shift nice and smooth so this one has me puzzled. Any ideas?

Normal, happens to me as well. Nothing to worry about - nature of the DCT / programming

Is it true the later cars with updated DCT firmware not have this issue?

I can't confirm the new firmware fixes it - I can confirm there has been multiple posts on this issue, or at least conversations around it. Im bringing in my M3 to my buddy who is a BMW master tech for some warranty work next week, ill ask if he knows anything about it.

I have a 2018, built 06/2018, its like they forgot to program the rev match from 3 to 2. It just dumps it in to 2 and throws you through the windshield.

That's exactly what I'm experiencing. This can't be normal but it sounds like it's a software issue and everyone else is experiencing as well.

I was hoping there was a firmware fix to address this. I scheduled an appt to bring it in under warranty to see if there is a SIB.

Sounds like an excuse to use manual mode all the time lol

Funny thing is.. if I am in manual mode and I let the car coast down from 3rd gear and it does the automatic 3-2 because the revs drop too far, then the "event" doesn't occur.

When are you going in? Let us know what the dealer says.

Thanks

Next week. This is the 2nd time I'm bringing it in for this issue. The first time I just mentioned during my oil service and they said it's normal. This time I wanted to document that it's a known issue for me in case BMW release a fix after my car is out of warranty, they can at least goodwill the fix since I complained while it was in warranty. Just playing it safe since I'm keeping it long term.

This happens to me too. I have a 2015 and updated to the latest firmware last year. I thought my transmission was on it's way out but it seems normal from this thread

M-DCT doesn't have much finesse to it. Really brute force application of engineering. Tons of mechanical noises, odd down shifts, etc...

I have it too with the GTS software, but rarely. Never happened to me before I upgraded to GTS software though. Maybe just coincidence. What I do to prevent it is either stop faster or downshift into 2nd myself.

Yeh I jus drove my car in traffic with d2 sport + . Got a big headache. It's the drive by wire feeling in my old stick shift Acura tsx. Neck breaking down shifts with d2.
Feels like an Audi supercharged no dct too.

I adjust it with sport+ d1 now feels smoother.

I did the old SMG reset trick (pull back and hold both paddles when cruising about 40mph) to reset the calibrations/adaptations on the DCT and it did smooth it out a little bit. Not quite as much of a lurch but it didn't fix it completely.

I think the best way to drive this beast is like a Lamborghini. Manual paddle shift only. I only driven 1k miles so I'm not even sure yet.

Didnt know that was a thing. Does the car give you any sort of notification that you were successful?

Not sure, but this seemed to work.

So dealer pulled codes (none) and reset the transmission adaptations and gave the car back. They said if I still had an issue they would open a case with BMW NA and have the factory rep come verify the issue. The 3 to 2 doesn't seem as harsh anymore but occasionally it will do the lurch thing. I think it depends on how quickly you are slowing down.

Can I get you guys' feedback on when you notice that this occurs in your cars? Like what speed during the 3->2 shift does the lurch happen and if I can replicate it with some specifics, I can schedule that appointment with the BMW rep to document and see what they find out more on it.
