It is quite possible that the M3cs have received a steel driveshaft, although this cannot be confirmed with the picture you posted. The press release is very specific about only the M4GTS and M4cs being excluded from this measure, albeit the M3cs was not yet announced when this press release for the driveshaft came out. Interestingly, in the BMW ETK, the M3cs is not considered as a distinct model in the same way the M4cs is and specifies that all M3 have a steel driveshaft starting Nov-17. Best way to find out is to type your VIN in the BMW ETK and lookup the driveshaft.

I wanted to say it might be the end of the DS. You have to go further up to see. Compare the circular weld on the car's DS to the photo sample. Looks nearly identical.

What update are you looking for? As described above, everything seems to indicate that the M3cs have the new steel driveshaft.

Looks like the output end of the latest revision DCT CF driveshaft to me.
The all steel driveshaft doesn't have an output flange profile like this. |

I've run a few M3 CS VIN through ETK (actual BMW AG not via 3rd party) and this is what pops up when selecting driveshaft components: NOTE S9MRA M Sport Factory Special Models with S9MRA are shown in the ETK*. *Exceptions E90 M3 CRT E92 M3 GTS F80N M3 CS Parts that differ from the series version of the M3 are NOT shown in the ETK. These parts and additional information for these vehicles are available through ASAP at: Parts and Accessories > M GmbH > Sport Manufaktur |

Well I crawled under the car with my phone and got this pic. Looks like a CF driveshaft!
My M3CS was made on 23rd May 2018 so they may have them after all |

If you have to crawl under your car or put it up on a lift to figure out if you have a steel drive shaft I am not sure why it would matter to you. If you can't tell the difference by driving the car why would you care?
I had a 2015 M4 (which I assume had a CF drive shaft) and I now have a 2018 BMW M4 (which I assume has a steel drive shaft). I am not sure how I would tell the difference.

Well my original M3 is a non CP and this is a CS so with all of the changes between the cars I doubt anyone would notice the driveshaft. Back to back on two CP's, who knows??
Either way this thread is about the driveshaft swap so just adding another data point |

Had a chance to raise the car again. My F80 CS built June 2018 has carbon shaft. (Red and yellow in the pic is just a flash light.)
