Sounds so smooth with that muffler! I hope my x-pipe set-up will sound that smooth.
My external phone mic arrived, so I'm going to try to record some better quality videos as it has a wind sock that comes with the microphone. I think a new thread is warranted soon because there is a mix of everyone's set-ups and not just those with equal-length set-ups.

This is very hard to capture since I don't have professional gear, the wind sock I have on my external mic muffles out the higher notes of the exhaust, and without the wind sock there is still too much noise pollution but captures some of that higher pitched smooth "waaaaaaaaaaaaaa" note. I'll have to get with my buddy again to film it from the outside like my 1st videos, but maybe through an area with sound barriers/sound absorbers so that the sound can be captured better.
I tried different area's of the car (trunk lid, license plate area, underneath the car), I'll have to try again, it seems like the only time it will capture the exhaust is in the license plate area, but its too close to the exhaust itself so the sound gets too saturated. My phones internal mic seemed to capture the higher notes better (but too much wind noise). I posted it anyways because you can still hear the change in tone vs a stock exhaust:

I'll get a price figured out this week, I promise
I'm fabricating a midpipe in a couple of days also that I think might work, but it will utilize the oem muffler so it will have a different sound. If I like it I'll figure out a price for that also. Quote:

Woah that sounds really good. Doesn't even sound like a S55 anymore which is a GREAT thing. No more rasp
Is your car a comp package? I don't hear any of the stupid burble pops in your videos. Single muffler design would work better if you can manage to get the exhaust to exit right in the middle if you get a custom diffuser made. (Porsche style) If you come up with a mid pipe that works with the oem exhaust setup you have my money asap. I would pair it with my Akra axleback setup Alan

Honestly the biggest downside thus far is you want to wring out the revs to the limiter now, where the powerband is useless, just to hear that hard-edged howl.
Hope you can bring it to the masses soon so others can enjoy the new S55 sound era . I wish I had the means for this, but my exhaust shop has no interest in making another pair or more to sell. |

In theory, it should work with anything, may or may not take some small welding though...
I made a small audio slip of part-throttle with my equal-length set-up on the way home this evening (Audio Only) if anyone is interested. It's just part-throttle acceleration or how it would sound like without going wide-open, I was 1/2 throttle shifting around 4,500-5,000rpm. Was just happy I was able to capture the audio without distortion or clipping because wide open throttle was too loud for the mic Does sound lovely hitting that 4,000-5,000rpm zone and I could do that all day (as RMDZidane mentioned as well)

Update: so my car goes into fab tomorrow. Should be done by end of day - will test and either regroup and iterate on design or take the car home and record some pulls!
On another note, I spoke with my friend who has a masters in mechanical engineering and engine design. We spoke about increasing the diameter of one pipe, and he came up with the longer side needing a 3.0 inch pipe for 1 meter, and the shorter side needing at least 1.36 meters before the merge to achieve equalized pulses. I’m going to stick with my single exit, but someone else can definitely try this option now that we have detailed lengths. |

Great info!
Mine goes back in tomorrow too. Something else to think about, on the e46 M3, it has a resonator just on the drivers side front pipe. When you would delete the resonator on the drivers side front pipe (rear shorter bank), the sound becomes "unequalized/unbalanced" with Euro headers. It's as if the resonator "slowed" down the exhaust pulses on the rear bank to allow the front bank to catch up at the H-pipe about a foot downstream. With that in mind, I wonder what happens if the same concept can be applied to us with just deleting the passenger side secondary cat? |

I'm just about done with my midpipe for the oem muffler. I'll see about putting up some more pictures and a video tomorrow. With the oem muffler, it may be like polishing a turd, but I'll see what I come up with.
Here is part of what was done. An x-pipe of sorts behind the rear differential before joining up with the muffler

Well, I think if the driver's side can be cut and a 3.0 inch put in it's place for 1 meter, that you can keep the MPE fully in tact. You would probably need to delete the secondary cats though. The stock midpipe is definitely 1 meter up to MPE. Would need to double check if passenger side is 1.36 meters. If anything, I think that the H pipe would need to be cut and a X pipe clamped in - but the resale value of the MPE would tank - cutting up titanium and titanium welders are hard to find. Could always cut the MPE after the H pipe and get high quality sleeved clamps to put it back together without leaks.
