There is no "steering pump" on the F8X. The power steering is driven by an electric motor directly coupled to the steering rack.

I use the Sport+ steering setting at the track and have never had an issue with overheating.

M1 (used only when non-enthusiast passengers are on-board):
- Throttle: Sport
- Suspension: Comfort
- Steering: Comfort
- Transmission: 6MT
- DSC: MDM
- HUD: Default

M2 (used 99% of the time):
- Throttle: Sport+
- Suspension: Sport+
- Steering: Comfort
- Transmission: 6MT
- DSC: Off
- HUD: M-mode

Comfort steering really does have the most feedback. Hence I've elected to use it in all scenarios.

Just picked up a couple of days ago... settings are still evolving. Currently:

M1 (normally what I switch to for normal DD):
Throttle: Sport
Suspension: Sport
Steering: Sport
Transmission: 6MT
DSC: On
HUD: Standard

M2 (spirited driving, normal roads):
Throttle: Sport
Suspension: Sport Plus
Steering: Sport Plus
Transmission: 6MT
DSC: MDM
HUD: M

M1 is for Daily:
Throttle: Sport
Suspension: Sport or Sport Plus... depends on my mood and road quality
Steering: Sport
Transmission: D2
DSC: On
HUD: Standard

M2 is for Track:
Throttle: Sport (I hate the Sport Plus throttle mode... way too aggressive on tip in. I wish there was a way to get the additional cooling of S+ without the throttle mapping, without a tune at least)
Suspension: Sport Plus
Steering: Sport
Transmission: S2 (S3 shift violence is too agressive and upsets traction when powering out of corners)
DSC: MDM Euro (I've found it works perfectly for my driving style)
HUD: M View

Steering: Comfort
Transmission: 6MT
DSC: On
HUD: Standard

M2:
Throttle: Sport Plus
Suspension: Sport Plus
Steering: Sport
Transmission: 6MT

Best M1 and M2 Settings?

Ok, having had my F80 CP for a month now can anyone suggest the best M1 and M2 settings for day to day use of my beast? I have engine on sport in M1 setting the rest in comfort which makes the car sound good but I feel it's a bit of a cop out. Any ideas?

Congrats on your M3!

There's been several threads on this over the last couple of years. Try searching for "M Button Settings".

It's all a personal preference. Some like to drive it all sport + and others like to go granny (comfort/efficient) for a DD. There are so many combos to choose from. Keep messing around with it until your happy. I rock sport + for everything. My line of thinking is If I wanted to drive around in a Lexus I would have bought one. Good luck.

I run in sports plus...keeps the engine oil temp cooler...not sure if this makes a difference in longevity with interval oil changes.

All a matter of your preference...play with the settings and see what fits your driving style and environment.

My settings are the same as yours.

I think in the M Driving School they even suggest keeping the steering in comfort mode for the best natural feel and to put less strain on the steering pump

Yes. The instructors preferred comfort steering. They felt there was no need for more resistance and a "harder" feel. I used comfort steering for the 1st few months with the F82 but switched to sport +. It reminded me of the hydraulic steering on my e92s which I loved.

I used to be all comfort steering all the time until a month or so ago. I felt like the car was too jittery in hard cornering. Maybe I just suck as a driver.

I drive in sport +, sport +, and sport. Traction control on, until I want to play. Then it traction OFF and sport + all around.

It's amazing how much power the traction control zaps. If you think you want a tune simply turn the traction to off. Suddenly you don't need a tune

So true. Sometimes I think w should ban any new threads at all and just have a big "Search" button on the front page.

Comfort steering for all settings here. Was doing a spirited drive a while back and switched to M2 which at the time was sport plus everything and almost missed a corner because the steering got so tight with zippy feedback...never again lol
