I keep getting kicked out of CarPlay

This just started happening yesterday. I'll be listening to a podcast or song and all of a sudden CarPlay seems to just close and then reopen back to the CarPlay apps screen on the idrive screen. I'll start it again and a few minutes later it seems to do it again. This was on the way to work and it was probably 40 degrees outside and did it 7 times on a 20 minute commute. Not sure if temperature can have anything to do with it. On the way home it only did it once.

Has CarPlay just shutting itself off and seeming to restart itself been an issue for anyone else? Thanks.

Most likely you need to add the wifi antenna to the back of your radio. It is plug + play, and you can get the part off ECS tuning.

I had the same issue, added the antenna (no coding needed) and can even use carplay from outside the vehicle.

Is this just because the stock WiFi in the car sucks?

The wifi that's built into the HU sucks. Some cars are equipped with the wifi antenna from factory due to certain packages but if you keep dropping most likely yours isnt.

OK, thank you. I'll check it out. The phone was literally in the center console cup holder so you can't get much closer than that.

I wonder if it's an Apple issue. I have the same issue on a non-BMW (Porsche). It just started happening last weekend

Sounds like lacking an antenna which is the root issue. Seconding the other poster who suggested adding the external antenna to the headunit. Once you do that, it should be solid. That's what I did for my M and I've had zero issues with connectivity.

After adding the wifi antenna I don't have the issue anymore. Totally worth it.

Since I don't want to start a whole new thread, here we go:

I have had a flawlessly functioning iDrive 5.0 (I think - 2017 M3 w/ every OEM package installed) with wireless CarPlay for a year now - never a single issue. I use it daily for Spotify, Siri for messaging if needed and phone calls. Yesterday the CarPlay disconnected about 3-4 times during a call then reconnected, but would not push phone call audio or receive in-car microphone inputs. I had to change the call from CarPlay to iPhone speaker to hear and talk. Also, the voice to text function ceased to function.

I've already tried hard restarting my iPhone, deleting the phone from the car (and car from the phone) and turning the car off and back on. The same consistent problem is set: CarPlay works to integrate all apps, but phone call audio and microphone inputs do not.

I'm not sure what else to try since this issue just came out of no where from a perfectly operational system. I just reset iPhone network connections and will hard reset iDrive when I get in to commute to work today. Any suggestions or experience with this specific issue?

I'm running a 13 Pro with 15.6?

Update: after resetting connections, hard resetting the phone and hard resetting iDrive it seems to be working flawlessly again. False alarm I suppose just some stray electrons jacking my $hit up.

Looks like l am starting to have this same issue. I also have a 2017 with Carplay working flawless until yesterday. I can connect my phone to the car with regular bluetooth but it wont recognize Carplay. I removed the phone from the car and the car from the phone and tried to reconnect but it still wont get Carplay. USB connection will work but only for music audio and phone calls. The local dealership just told me the car was spec'd for Carplay (which l obviously already knew) and said in order to get it working again l would have to pay $300 for a 30 year subscription. Does that sound even remotely correct? I was assuming a module or antenna went bad somehow.

Before you pay anything to dealer let me know if you have CarPlay in the menu:
Media -> edit mobile devices -> add new
