Spark Plug Replacement

How much does this service typically run? Almost due for a change in 5k.
This would be for 60k miles.

A dealer quoted me $760 plus tax for parts and labor (3 hrs).

For the amount of items that needs to be removed to access the plugs, I'm not surprised. But really, 3 hours? I could follow a YouTube tutorial and finish it in an hour not ever doing it before.

One hour is stretching it. It's doable in 2 hours. I also ripped out the carbon filters and replaced the intake filters since that requires almost as much work to do.

Its really quick and easy if you know what you are doing and have the tools. I just did mine last week and start to finish it took about 40 minutes. I could probably do it faster next time too.

Your correct about the amount of items that need to be removed and reinstalled. Changed plugs on my 2015 M4 and it took a little over 2hrs. My dealer would charge me $285 to install plugs and I might very well let them do it when I put a new set of OEM plugs gapped to .022 in our 2018 M3 ZCP.

Jesus for $285? Both BMW and my normal shop quoted ~$700 for me. I might've let them do it if they quoted me less than $300. Damn

I suggest buying the plugs yourself and having a trusted shop do the labor. I would think that would be ~$350 all in.

I will be buying my own plugs and gapping them to .022. Just so it’s clear that if I decide to let my dealer do it, they would charge $285 to install with me providing plugs. I can get OEM plugs cheaper than they would charge.

I just changed oil n k&n air filter. my car is super smooth. I can't imagine charging the spark plugs would feel. I would do it my self to save on labor price. Already bought Bosch spark plugs cus that's all they had at bimmerworld for $120. Kind of expensive if u ask me.

800$+ quoted from bmw. Took me 5-6 hours. Since I’m a perfectionist and make sure every bolt and screw to torqued are right numbers and looking and checking out the spark plug for 1-2 hours and running to autozone to get parts and back. I’d say actual work time 2-3 hours. I went oem I’ve heard bad things about the washer on the NGK plugs so didn’t go with them.
