"Conclusion
I only had the car for a week, and it did everything in its power to successfully seduce me. For all my realizations about the future of performance cars, I had an exceptionally hard time finding things to dislike about BMW's flagship performance car.

The M4 is neither the fastest nor the most luxurious car in the world, but for under $100,000, you'd be hard pressed to find a car that does both better."

So I would say yes he loved it.

(hope thats not too much to post mods)

Good review, but can't say that I agree with the 6MT being less "serious" than the DCT and feeling betrayed by it.

Nice. I only hope this doesn't start another rant thread on MT vs. DCT!

I think everyone who bought MT knew their car would be a bit slower. For a street only driver this car is so fast in either form I doubt it matters.

Haven't read the review yet, but for the record the opening line

No, there are no good lines in Ronin. It is a terrible, terrible movie....

Now, short rant over, onto the actual review.

I don't feel betrayed at all. I bought this car with the 6 speed, for "mad-freaking-fun"

To invoke Godwin's law right off the bat, that is like saying "Pol Pot wasn't bad - not like he was A.H. bad...."

And, yeah, maybe I overstate the case. But it really wasn't good and it certainly had nothing in it that was great (including the line he quoted)

The review is positive, but middling (says little new, his surprise realization that DCTs are now faster than Manuals is about 5 years out of date) ALTHOUGH I did appreciate his comments that all the whining about "too much torque" only comes into play when you forget everything you know about driving and, as has been said, treat the throttle like an on-off switch. Drive smoothly and with precision and the car is fantastic.

Yup, thats JUST how it happened to me too. The car simply seduced me. I had an E92, so naturally I did all the usual "Poo Pooing" that most of the e90/92/93 owners did to maintain honor...... The sound was my first complaint. "OH MY GOD that thing sounds AWFUL!" Yep, I thought so too. Then my much younger wife said something that struck home: "Um... dear? Who cares if your car sounds like an exotic F1 full race car but cant outrun a lawnmower in reverse?"... Damn, the truth was, she was right. If I was honest with myself the pull of my E92 was always a let down. Always. I HAD to focus on that wonderful wail it made because frankly it wouldnt outrun ANYTHING I had owned for the last 10 years. ANYTHING!
My m4 does EVERYTHING well. EVERYTHING. Including pull like a mother. It sounds much better with the MPE, and its just the best all around BALANCED performance car I've ever owned or driven. Period. So for ME.... It was PERFECT! Anytime I miss that old "wail" I just remember all the damn money I dumped in bolt ons, including a supercharger... and still gets walked by my M4 in reverse... (sue me, i did put a jb4 on it, big deal)
Is it the best car ever? NOPE... Is it the best car ever for me? YEP, at least right now!

You'll love it. Its a pit in your stomach until you realize that as long as you keep the car under 550 rwhp you have nothing to worry about. The jb4 tunes are safe, especially the map 1 and 2. Once you feel the pull you cant go back, lol. I've got a pretty full plate for a week or two, but anytime after that and I'd be happy to meet up with you. It's easy to install yourself too

You may not agree, but that doesn't make it any less true. Honestly not trying to denigrate anyone's choice, but if performance is the goal then DCT is the only way to go, it's faster in any conceivable measurement.

Some people like the romance of the manual, ok for them.

Absolutely. I recognize that it's slower, and that maybe all of 6 guys on the Internet might be bothered by that fact. I could care less. But calling it "less serious" has more derogatory connotations which I don't necessary agree with.

Otherwise it looks like he loved the car, and was thoroughly impressed.

I must admit, I am really looking forward to this part of my f80. The overpowered part. I have NEVER owned an over powered car. Never. I can't wait to experience the intermittent tire squeals, the traction lights flickering on the way back from the grocery store and the burnt rubber smell that just happens by complete accident. Bring it on!!!

It is not slower unless your skills are lower. The 6spd consistently dynos -10whp more than DCT and the DME with 6spd has higher torque parameters.

Haha, this is priceless. "Skills"! No, it most certainly is slower, to change gear and thus accelerate as anyone from layman to professional racing driver will tell you and any numbers will back up.

*none of this means I do not love MTs. Grew up driving them and always have at least one in the garage. There is no wrong choice in the DCT vs MT argument, buy what makes you happy and leave it at that.
