In post 1 & 10 he confirms he has an F80, but it'd be too funny if somehow his model range was set to F082 and that's what was causing the issue good catch dmnc02 but I doubt it was wrongly set by the dealer update!

I noticed when I was changing all the various parameters under section 3000 in my other thread, that the fault created would be the same one 8053A5, regardless of the parameter changed...

If he has an F80, I think there is a fair chance that this is causing the issue.

That is why I asked him earlier on (post #59) if he had modified his FA in any way. He said he tried VO coding again and nothing changed, so it looks like there might be something odd in his FA: otherwise VO coding should have reset "Model Range" to F080.

To be complete, he sent me two files, cafd_00000f9b-001_020_003 (model range F82) and cafd_00000f9b-001_020_002 (model range is F80). The pic I posted was for the _003 which he says he downgraded from to _002. So could the dealer update screwed up, of course that is if no one else modified this like the OP...

Btw he VO coded after he sent me the files.

The F82 thing was just me messing around to see if other values might have worked.

By default the VO coding leaves model range as F80.

aboulfad dmnc02 Sent you guys a PM.

Re-flashing the ASD ECU did the trick.

I'm still in the car. I'll update the original post later today with solutions.

Mega mega thanks to shawnsheridan aboulfad and dmnc02 for their tireless help! Honestly could not have figured this out without you guys. Next time any one of you is in SF do ping me, dinner and drinks are on me!

Just as a note here, injecting old CAFD is not the same as downgrading the software.

Yes. That's correct. 4 days ago I pretty much didn't know jack.

Still don't, but getting better.

A few posts back he said he will update the OP. shortly.

I'm taking my M3 in for its 1,200 mile service Friday. I hope I don't hit any of this. Anything I should ask them NOT to do? Like jacking up my active sound.

Unless you are attempting to fix something, there is absolutely *zero* reason for the dealer to touch your software. The dealership usually needs to have an excuse to do software work anyways, so that they can bill BMW for warranty hours.

I have just placed an order for an LCI M3. Should I expect ASD to be disabled? I want what ever I've heard on reviews and the car I test drove. If I get anything less I will be majorly pissed off as I already think the engine sound is quite muted.

No, you should not expect ASD to be disabled: Stryder's issue was either due to an odd occurrence during the flashing process by his dealer or to a bug in the software version used (which is now superseded by a newer one).

Gents,

I am currently faced with the same issue.

I have tried 'The Straight forward way' by reflashing the ASD ecu by Connect => Read FA => Activate FA => Read ECU => Right-Click on the ASD ECU => Select CODE. Cycled car, edit cadf, saved, code cadf, cycled car, still no ASD.

Just wondering if any one has directions on where to obtain Rheingold software?

What you did is not flashing, you kinda just reset the ECU to its defaults values. Flashing requires that you upload firmware to the car. Rheingold is for diagnostics, I will send you a PM.

Thanks for the PM.

I'll get that copy for diagnostics. So to find an older version of my ASD file I'd have to look to someone else to see if they can send me a copy? I don't think I saved the old cadf file prior to taking it into the dealer
