BMW, please steal this idea from Merc (retractable bumper under-guard)

At 6:00 Doug tells us about a button on the AMG GTR that raises the air panel. I'm pretty sure there are a bunch of us driving around with either two flaps under our cars that are either:

Torn off
Ripped to shreds
Removed completely

I've had mine replaced already and I have a spare set in my garage, but honestly, now that my current flaps are almost completely torn off, I don't even want to replace it. They're just going to get ragged again in a few weeks time.

It's why I kept the stock 4x4 suspension ride height.

On the bright side the F8x panels are 1/3 the price of the e9x M3 ones. The plastic one on the newer cars seems more durable when you compare the the felt one previously.

Not to my knowledge. Of the multiple lease returns I have done, they have never looked that closely under the car.

I just tore mine a few weeks ago and have been debating if it's worth the effort to replace them. Did you replace yourself or have a body shop do it? Wondering how difficult it would be to do it myself.

Are these the right parts for replacement? https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...t/51718054282/

Yup, thats the part as far as I can tell. I had my bodyshop do it since I was getting my bumper repaired. It doesn't look like it's too hard to do yourself however.

Mine were so torn that I just cut them off a few weeks back when I installed my Lightweight lip. Any reason to replace them?

It's not hard- just a few screws.

It's easy. I wouldn't bother replacing them.

So easy to fix and cheap, no idea why anyone wouldn’t replace them. In the three years I had my 15 m4 I had to replace two. $68 total for both and about 5 minutes to fix each time. Im not very handy and I had no trouble, just a few screws. You’ll also be surprised at how much grit gets caught up in there, was kind of nice to clear all that out. I’m pretty sure they would notice if they were missing on turn in, you don’t have to look under the car to see them. They do serve a purpose and add some aesthetics to the front of the car.

Is this that little strip of flappy rubber that sticks out just below and behind the front air dam? I literally assumed that was to protect the car from rubbing against pavement.

I don't see the rubber flappy parts in that ECS link...? I need to replace at least one of mine, it's sawed nearly in half.

Per ZCPM4s post and link, this is its purpose: “This belly pan connects the front bumper to the front fender, sealing off the underbody for superior aerodynamics, protecting the undercarriage, and helping to channel cool air into the radiator. If yours has become damaged due to its low position on the chassis, then replace it with this Original BMW part from ECS Tuning”. I don’t think it’s actually called a belly pan by bmw but that is the right part.

My driver side one got torn off on my Euro Delivery. Passenger side one got torn off sometime after re-delivery. I bought the replacement parts and installed them. Both have been ripped off again for quite awhile.

Not worth replacing IMHO. Just trim them up and don't worry about them.

Way better than on the E92. That required replacing the entire fender well liner just to replace the aero flap since it's all molded in to one large piece.
