Traffic gone? RRTi?

I have a 2018 M3 and just recently my traffic (colors) stopped showing on my nav. Does that information come via BMW? My warranty just expired and I renewed my Sirius (minus traffic) because I assumed it came regardless like 5 months ago but only just recently the traffic colors (green/orange/red) disappeared.

If all you want is RTTI, then that is the subscription you will need to buy. There are other subscription packages as well with additional features (and cost). So you should check them out to see what else you may want, and are willing to pay for.

Otherwise, you will need to use Waze, Google Maps or Apple Maps (or a few others) via Apple CarPlay if you want RTTI on your iDrive screen.

Word. I paid the $50 and am whole again. I have waze/car play and all but like RTTI on the factory NAV as well.

Does anyone happen to know which service is for voice response to text messages?

I recently lost access to BMW apps (2017 M4), can't access Weather in iDrive, and have lost all real-time traffic on Maps. When I go to the Connected Drive store online, there is no option to purchase any upgrades. Last year I purchased the map and traffic subscription package, which coincidentally ended a few days ago, but it's not even an option to add back to my vehicle.

At the same time, the My BMW smartphone app now comes up with "No Active Subscription" when I open it, with no remote services available.

Is there something going on?

Assuming there is nothing materially wrong with your car, does your car require an upgrade (hardware or software) in order to continue using these services? In Feb 22, BMW no longer supports 3G cell phone tech - it must be LTE or 5G. BMW has stated they will offer this one-time upgrade (software or hardware) as long as your equipment is not too old. The dealer can figure this out via your VIN.

My understanding is that the cutoff for which cars need the upgrade are cars manufactured some time in 2016. My F80 is a MY17 car built in Nov 2016, but I did not need the upgrade from the dealer. I also re-upped my subscriptions in my F80 last month without issue. So the reason you no longer have any services available to you is that you may need the upgrade provided by the dealer.

I think you may be right. I didn't want to believe that my car was so old that it was still using 3G technology for its OTA services. I was aware of a cutoff happening, but I wrongly assumed that this was for much older vehicles and that mine was safe. I also thought that the cutoff would be much more overt and blatant, with an error message stating as such (either in the car or through the Connected Drive store). I will check with my service tech next time I'm at the dealership.

Thanks for making me realize that I wasn't immune.

Well, consider yourself lucky as your MY17 car still should be eligible for the free dealer upgrade in order to restore these OTA services if you wish. IIRC, for the F8x cars, MY15 and most of MY16 F8x cars are considered "too old" for this upgrade and are SOL….

I just did the 3G update on my 17 M4 today. It was free.

Strange thing is, my traffic and weather was still working even yesterday. They said it ended in Feb.

Weird.

Not surprising.

The vehicles built in later part of 2016 including the early 2017 MY all need the software update. The 4G data section works fine. It just moves the voice to VoLTE without polling 3G first.

So of course your data feeds, such as RTTI, were working prior to the software update.

My Nov 16 production, MY 17 M3 did not need any update for this, according to my VIN….

If your November 2016 vehicle was built with iStep LOWER than F020-16-11-5xx, you need the firmware update.

If your vehicle was built with the iStep F020-16-11-5xx or above, you are good to go.

IMPORTANT: If your 2016 built vehicle with iStep Lower than F020-16-11-5xx, AND your dealer has updated your iStep after November of 2016, you DO NOT NEED a new firmware update and your vehicle will be noted as not needing the update.

Most likely, your iLevel was upgraded after the car was purchased.

Yes, my vehicle's I-step has been updated at least twice since I purchased the car back in Dec 16. The last time I believe was in 2018 some time. So that would explain why dealer records show that I did not need an update for this issue.

UPDATE: After believing that I would need a dealer upgrade, I checked the Connected Drive storefront after updating the My BMW smartphone app, and the option to purchase Connected Drive subscription services (i.e. Real-Time traffic, Map updates, BMW Apps, Remote Services) had returned as an option. I guess my original subscription had run out and needed to be renewed.

Long story short, my previously removed services are now working again. Seems like the app or something else on the backend needed to be updated.

Looks like they changed this and now it’s six services for $120 a year. Doesn’t look like I can just get RTTi without getting all the other stuff I don’t want. Anyone renewed recently and can confirm that?
