What 335i can do 0-60 in under 4 seconds?

Lighter Weight = Better!

I have a 2013 E93 M3 and boy I am looking forward to the new M4 convertible! I avoided trading up to the E93 from my E46 for as long as possible and I honestly hate the added weight in the current generation (although the engine is truly a gem!). I have had my '13 E93 M3 for 1 year now and I look forward to hopefully getting the M4 convertible in 2 years.

My major concern is steering, as my E93 doesn't hold a candle to my E46 in terms of road feel, so hopefully they will get it right like the new 991 GT3. But clearly the less of hundreds of pounds will be a huge help in general. Lighter = Better!

Looking forward to trying the M4. I hope it brings us closer back to the lighter/more nimble E46...

And for the record, I am one of the current '13 E93 M3 owners who thinks that the M4 looks amazing and who is not at all bitter about it. Frankly I'm looking forward to it. Until then I'll enjoy 2 more years with my V8 :-)

Looking forward to seeing convertible renders soon!

I liked the way my 328i handled better than the M3. The M3 active steering f's with me and makes me feel unattached to the road - it also doesn't act consistent which surprises me. Also the M3 active suspension makes a smoother ride, but the 328 felt like it was velcroed to the road.

You are very concerned about weight but drive (and want another) convertible. Holy contradictions Batman...

3.5 s to 60 is really moving. I would be very happy if the new M3/M4 could do that stock.

Swamp, you are somewhat correct, although you would have to go for a ride in my car with the top and with my OEM Exhaust Mod (non-perf). :-) Given that I live in LA and my roof can be done almost every day, I would easily trade the additional noise for a little weight any day!

Jeremy Clarkson just reviewed the 458 Spyder and said he prefers it over the coupe because of the added sensations due to the increased noise. That summarizes how I feel about my M3 convertible :-)

I consider M3 convertible with the OEM Exhaust Mod to be similar to Tivo. Once you experience it you won't go back. This is my 4th M3 Convertible in a row (I had 3 E46 M3 Convertibles)... I wish they made the 911 GT3 in a convertible, as I would probably buy that!!

Puhleeze. We know you're locked in to your E92. You're not in the market for a few years. It's ok. It's a nice car. You don't have to justify it to yourself. When you get an F82 in a few years, nobody will even remember your whining.

I was expecting you to quote 0-60 times... When I said fast I'm not thinking just 0-60! That's the easy part. I'm thinking round Nurburgring or any other track fast. That's where a 335i and a M really differs, no matter how much you chip it... It's not a muscle car that is made for the purpose of straight line racing...

I think the Ring is more geared toward top speed than other courses (Sebring, Infineon) so...

I don't give a damn about top speed. Quick acceleration is great, I love that for dd. But more than that I want nimble handling and accurate steering -- things we'll need for our daily commute, and weekend fun.

X-Drive? If not I don't believe it.

It takes much more than just power to get those figures. An M6 can't get anywhere close to that with supposedly 580-600hp. Even an xDrive 335i would need serious power to get to 3.5. 335i RWD? No way.

Which is why I wrote "or any other track"...

Have you been on the 'Ring? Doesn't sound like it. Manufacturers all around the world don't use it to test top speed... There is only one really long straight. It's regarded as the worlds best test track and really puts a cars handling and suspension on test. The parts you love (nimble handling and accurate steering) is what they use the 'Ring to develop...

Good point. There is nothing the least bit wrong with loving the S65s scream with an aftermarket exhaust. My shortcuts to that experience are (I do also have an aftermarket exhaust and it is perfect IMO) - windows down, rear seats down and tunnels/long underpasses. I'm just not willing to sacrifice on the weight, complexity, reliability, chassis stiffness, less performance, etc. for a Vert. Cheers.

Really? First I've ever heard of this. Some of this may be subjective, but I'd still politely suggest you take the two to the track and give each a proper drive.

Yes, my 328 has very stiff steering, almost like there's no power steering. Every bump is felt on the road, in an attached way. I felt very connected to the road. And turns were just fun. Problem is I had to red line just to keep a pace. The M3 changed that in that it's all powered. So I can feel the M3 acting on my behalf-steering, suspension, brakes, which I can imagine would help me tremendously on the track but is a new feeling. Oh also, I noticed the 328 sits lower than the M3, probably due to the tires. First few turns in my M3 I felt very heavy and high.

I figure the 328 was one of those "fun" "sporty" cars, like the GTI or BRZ. The M3 is on a whole different strata of performance that takes a pilot to appreciate, not a girl or punk.

I only have 500 miles on her so far, so no track yet, not even over 6500 rpm.

Still a whole year off at least until anybody gets one to find out.

The next bullet for the M4 was that recent released video -- that exhaust sounds like a freakin Subaru ricer! Are you kidding with that rattling noise coming out the back? I can't imagine they'd release it sounding like that, even the 335is and new 335 sounds decent.

Posted by Longboarder, got consistent times at 3.8s 0-60 in his 335.

On the same thread someone had vBox measured 2.9s 0-60 on M3 with race tires.
