Oil level warning

I'm getting an oil level warning every time I start my car. If I test the level it is green right up to top and says ok. Any ideas what this could be?

Only when you start the car? Did the temp drop? Did you have an oil change recently? Is the car leveled?

Temp has warmed up. I did have an oil change a month ago but it just started this week. It stays on until I test the level. I am testing on a flat floor

Sounds like a sensor issue. Dealership time.

Are you tuned? I ran into the same issue. I even went ahead and changed the oil level sensor which did nothing. After some thought I realized this started happening after switching maps. Reflashed the car and it was all good. Happened once more when map switching but reflashing fixed it again

As always when some light pops up check the obvious things first. The number of threads here where people come and tell about an issue and then afterwards it is because they forgot to mention something. There are NO coincidences, if everything is ok for example and a light pops up after changing the oil this is NOT a coincidence peeps! How much oil was put in when the oil got replaced?

I think I fixed it. I switch maps frequently with bootmod3 and today I switched again and it is all working well now. Must have been an issue with the last flash. I've done that for over 2 years but this is the first time this happened.

It's great u found the issue. The greater concern is if switching maps or flashing an update causes this what else are we not aware about that is screwed up in the process randomly.

Did you log a ticket with BM3?

Sure you're right, you assume everyone knows which changes matter. I've flashed so many times I wouldn't have made the connection.

Well if you really think about it, diagnosing issues wit that car is that simple in a lot of cases.

Same issue with me, even reflashing, or flashing different map I had the warning in the morning every time.

Let car go to sleep for 1 min after flashing. Then start car. This resolves the low oil light warning for me.

+1. It clearly tells you to turn the car off for 5 seconds before starting it. I’ve never had an issue and I switch maps regularly.

i appear to be having the same issue, after I flashed a stage 1 map with bm3. Im going to flash back to stock and see if it goes away before i replace the sensor.

I just had the same thing happen, low oil level light came on a cold start. Turned the car off for a few seconds then turned it back on and the light was gone but the code was still there. Drove it to warm it up and measured green to the top. Haven’t changed the oil for 3k miles. Now the temperatures did drop to low 60s here from 80s, not sure if that would have anything to do with it. Could the oil level sensor be going bad? Been running my e85 Jordan tune close to 3 months now and about to switch it back to 93 oct tune for a full tank clean out. Weird it happened to someone else today also.

You know, you can actually (GT4) retrofit an actual BMW dipstick into our cars.

You'd lose the sensor/idrive function, though.

Cheers!
